Buckingham Palace.
28th June,2010.
Dear Mr. Matcham,
The Queen has asked me to thank you for your letter of 27th May expressing your concern over the previous Goverment,s proposal to privatise the Port of Dover.
Her Majesty has taken careful note of your comments.
As a constitutional Sovereign, The Queens acts on the advice of her Ministers, and I have, therefore been instructed to send your letter to the Right Honourable Philip Hammond, MP,the Secretary of State for Transport, so that he may know of your approach to Her Majesty on this matter and may consider the points you raise.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Sonia Bonici
Senior Correspondence Officer.

Vic as a former Councillor I would have thought that you would know that the monarchy does not get involved in political decision. To do so would create a constitutional crisis.

Sometimes ,as my old father used to say, " if you've got nothing worthwhile to say it's best keeping your mouth shut". Maybe this was an example Vic. You should have kept it shut.
I sometimes question your motives, are you really doing it for the good of Dover or just to promote yourself in the public eye?. Surely you knew (then maybe not) that the Head of State can't get involved in political matters and that the only outcome would be a non response from some lacky at Buck House. However it probably got you a mention in Dubris which appears to be your main aim in life. Maybe it's time and sat down and examined your true motives for your actions and remember your not kidding us just yourself and your God. However if it keeps you happy who the hell am I to question you..and as you say I don't even live in Dover anymore.Regardless of the fact I still pay UK and Jersey taxes and won't be claiming my state pension (my personal decision to make a contribution to the economy)
Sorry to be so harsh..but this response is prompted by your annual attempts to get on the council as a red blue yellow green rainbow whatever candidate, losing deposits at the general elections and your continuing ego which is only fed and measured by inches and photos in the newspapers.
OK.I will probably get banned now from the DF for the above... but like you I sometimes feel like hitting back.

Frankly, you're out of order. Whatever motives Vic, or anyone else may have for that matter, is none of your concern. The sale of the port is clearly something Vic feels strongly about and the fact that he is prepared to write a letter that many on here may mock as a waste of time shows a passion for our town that I wish was mirrored by others including our Councillors who seem content and let the town continue to slide without even questioning whether what is going on here is right.
Too many people are being too passive about the fate of this town, and I read three separate members on this thread taking the piss because someone is prepared to stand up for what he believes in. For what it's worth, I believe Marek's attack on Vic to be personal, highly offensive and unwarranted, and the fact that the post has been allowed to remain in open view shows a contempt for a member on here that reflects on the admin staff as well as the poster. Disgraceful.

I know Vic is quite able to defend him self and his intentions are clearly what he believes is right for his beloved Dover .I can also see where Marek is coming from .Andy I know you were defending Vic however dont put all councillors under one umbrella .In our own way we all try to do what we can for the people of all the District .Im busy enough with my patch and also keepimg an eye on others .Im constantly reporting various problems as I peer from the bus window .Jobs are done but they dont make headlines in Dubris or anny other newspaper article .
I support events as an ordinary resident and sometimes officially .
My community is very dear to me but I dont need to get headlines .
Dover does look sad but like I said on another thread why dont a few residents do something about it .
How much effort does ot take to pick up litter or plant a few floweres we could have a glorious Forum fund raising event .
Many councillors are Community Councillors and its there task to help in the community .
Having said all this I cannot help at the River Fayre as DDC duties call me to Walmer Green

Andy
With the greatest respect over the many years that I have been posting on the DF it soon became obvious, rightly or wrongly, that sometimes Vics love of the limelight and the camera outweighed his better judgement. He became the subject of ridicule but I won't repeat the threads here and rather than him become the figure of fun as he has done in the past I thought that maybe a time for reflection was called for.And as this is a 'club' I felt it would be appropriate to raise the issue here.Sometimes one has to be cruel to be kind.Vic didn't think twice about reminding me that as I no longer lived in Dover that I should therefore remain quiet on local issues. I took that in good faith and humour and ignored it and I'm sure Vic will probably do the same with my advice.
Finally there are many unsung heroes in Dover who's efforts for the town are not widely reported but they just get on with it..quietly.
As for Vic coming to Jersey nothing would give me greater pleasure than to pick him and his wife up at the air or seaport upon arrival.

thanks for that personal attack andy, i did not delete the post from marek as he and vic always have digs at each other and both seem to take it in good part.
paul may see it differently when he logs on.

FGS, why does it have to be a personal attack merely because I criticise a lack of mediation? You may view that post as a dig, Howard, I see it completely differently. Vic Matcham seems to be fair game when it comes scurrilous remarks about his politics; you know Vic as well as anyone, Howard, and you know full well how committed he is to the town, and yet you see fit to permit open season on him. Frankly, I stand by my 'disgraceful' comment earlier on. If you take that as a personal attack, that's your lookout and not mine. Members are entitled to be protected from such words - and if you think it doesn't get through to Vic's feelings, think again.
Disgraceful. Still.

Relax a bit guys, we're all club members together. Vic and Marek do occasionally knock some spots off each other but nevertheless lets try and keep it friendly. We can make more debating progress if we all pull together...so rein it in a bit there Marek me oul mucker, as we dont want any of the members getting offended.
We do need co-operation from everyone in the shape of a wee bit of self moderation before posting....thats one of the reasons we have a limited membership clubhouse, so that it can all work well, without the downside normally associated with these things.
