I always knew ants were clever little blighters, but I've near seen them build a vertical tunnel before!

Saw 3 Little Egrets this morning. One at Buckland Bridge and one either side of the bridge in Lower Road (River).
Assuming the 1st one didn't fly up into River

Any help with this please, not much to go on because I only got an impression of its posture and colour and it had gone by the time I got my camera out. Anyway, the bird was perched on the washing-line pole yesterday afternoon before dusk. Grey head, brown wings, cream/light brown front. Thought it was a thrush at first but taller than that, upright and not as plump as say a pigeon.

Was the breast spotted/ mottled? Could be a fieldfare (thrush family)

I didn't see much of it, but that was indeed the impression I got.

I don't know what's happened to the local bird population, my feeders are going down very slowly over the last month and I thought they normally visit more during Winter. The only ones I have seen are the usual Magpies, Collared Doves and Wood Pigeons who always visit in pairs and eat off the ground.

The birds must all be visiting mine
, I expect other people in your area have started to put food out.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Put out a nut feeder and Sunflower heart feeder the week before Christmas and both are well used not that I have actually seen many birds but one new visitor was a Goldfinch(after checking what he/she looked like on the RSPB site) and it transpires that they like Sunflower hearts so might see some more visit.

Unusual sight this morning with two Magpies and two Collared Doves feeding, normally the Magpies chase out other birds.

An Egret has taken up residence in Pencester Gardens and I have now been informed that it is likely to have absconded from the stretch of River near Barton School. Apparently there were three there until recently, now only one.

Rarely see them along Barton path, never saw three there.
There was one opposite the bottom of Crabble Lane last Sunday, and a grey heron in the same place a couple of weeks before that.

Hopefully Harold wasn't too put out it just needs someone with disposable rubber gloves to remove the offending amphibian.
