Along the Barton Path this morning: mallards, moorhens, pied wagtail, grey wagtail, house sparrows, magpies, little egret, blue tits, blackbird. Sadly no kingfisher today, though it was there about a week ago.

I would love to have seen the egret. Haven't seen one since that pair famously visited a number of years ago.
I could've sworn I saw a kingfisher zoom past me along Barton Path once a couple of decades ago, but couldn't find anyone who could reliably confirm to me that they are actually a thing in Dover. Also at Connaught Park once. Just a quick "what was that" flash of brilliant blue both times. I would love to spot one properly!
Does this current Barton Path one have a favourite perch perchance?

I spotted it on a low ledge on a garden wall on the other side of the river just up from the Beaconsfield Road entrance. It then flew upriver about 50 yards to a low-hanging branch, but shot back to the ledge when I got closer. The egret was further up, as the path curves away from the river towards Cherry Tree.
(btw TWD, were you waving or saluting at Victoria in '76?)

I saw a Kingfisher back in 2003 in Pencester Gardens and just assumed it was normal here, not seen one since.

Grey heron currently playing about in the shopping trolleys at Buckland Bridge. Never seen one there before.

This Barton path egret was a little subdued earlier today:

There I was, observing the chaffinches by Stembrook flats earlier, when this little one popped up and stole the show. Apologies for the appalling photo quality (an old mobile and a fidgety bird do not a good pic make), but there
is a goldcrest in there:

Looks like the cormorant has made it up to other side of Crabble Mill this morning.

Quite near to each other this morning by Morrisons at about 10.30, a cold looking heron, cormorant with wings out stretched plus Mr and Mrs Mallard snuggled up together.
Lovely to see on such a cold day, hopefully a sign Spring will be early this year.

Recently seen a couple a rats along Barton Path and this morning one on the green outside Morrisions.
Had never seen any on that part of the river before. (perhaps I hadn't been looking closely enough?)

A couple of years ago I saw an enormous rat happily trotting up the pedestrian slope that leads from Crafford Street to the Asda part of the car park, horrible things I hate them.

Haven't seen a fish in the river along Barton Path for ages either.

Last Summer because of all the reeds in the River Dour by Morrisons going past I could only see a little bit of water so no chance of seeing any fish in that area anymore, it is nice to see the bulrushes though.

And, now that the railings over the bridge have disappeared, it's even harder to fish spot.
Does anyone know what happened to said railings?

Saw a cormorant along Barton Path this morning.
No fish again. Where have they all gone?

Hiding in all those bloody reeds by Morrisons that hide so much of the river and the wildlife from view.

Possibly, but you could always see them in the un-overgrown parts. Not seen 1 all year.
