Just been watching this swan play with a balloon in the upper pond at crabble, she was having a great time pushing it up and down the river and trying to pushing it under with her bill and neck.

Had one of these in my garden earlier and tracked it down on Google images but no name given for it.

That looks like a cinnabar to me, HM1.

With this lovely weather of late I have been spending a lot of time in the garden and have reached the conclusion that Herring Gulls are utter toe rags. Bigger birds like Collared Doves, Magpies and Wood Pigeons are perfectly happy to share the bounty I put out and leave sparrows and other small birds to nosh away.
The Herring Gull just chases others off even when they don't want to eat what is there themselves.

Pecking order on my feeders.
Jackdaws, Magpies, Collared Doves, Starlings, Sparrows with occasional visits from Great Tits and Blue Tits when they are allowed
. Seagulls and Pigeons get chased off whenever I can as they are greedy sh***ing machines that take whatever they can get.
I should add I even had a Chaffinch which is surprising as my feeder is only about two car lengths from the road.

I am feeling sad today as I have had to stop feeding the birds for a while as I am getting besieged with f*****g pigeons. They are perching on the window sills and crapping everywhere, what with them and two young seagulls in the back garden today I have simply had enough.

Only ever remember one feral pigeon in my garden and then it was between the cat's jaws but get regular visits from a pair of wood pigeons. My favourites are now the collared doves who bring along one of their young who is very adventurous and eats quite comfortably while I am in the garden. A few evenings ago I looked out and there were six noshing away, 4 adults and two youngsters.

Today was the last straw with the pigeons there were eight of the B things all at once, I think they come from the Charlton Centre or Asda area, there are usually a lot around there.
The wood pigeons like the back garden and strip the cherries from the top of the tree down sadly we had a poor crop this year. I much prefer collared doves they are so graceful in comparison to the feral pigeons.

Saw a grey heron out in the suburbs earlier.
1st one I'd seen for ages.

And a Little Egret this evening. Where do they go for the summer?

I don't think they go anywhere as they are well-established around the south coast now. Some travellers winter here as well.

Had a pair of collared doves visiting me the last two summers and this year they brought their sprog along who decided to visit on its own due to youthful bravado. Then another pair arrived then a third pair, but being broad minded I have no problem with swingers parties.
Turned nasty a few days back when one persistently put the bite on another and then yesterday one was in a bad state in my garden but I couldn't catch it in order to take it to a vet.

He was there flapping his wings when I went past not just before 11.00. Not good news for the fish although lovely to see.
