Bern,
DDC's notes of the 6th March state the cost of the screen will initially be £6,135 rising to £16,135 after 2012/13. Evidence:

Goodness knows where the £45k rumour has come from, doubtless a sore loser somewhere...until a document can be evidenced that figure should be treated with great suspicion.

Thank you - the more information the better! It's the only way to form a real opinion!

as paul says 16 k is a drop in the ocean, how can we move forward without spending anything?
vandalism is a poor excuse for doing nothing.
the shelters on the seafront get vandalised frequently, the alternative would be close off the seafront after dark.

Some of the costings were mentioned in the Mercury yesterday. KCC are stumping up £75k, DTC £10k and £5k from Dover Pride.
However, £35k is coming from the East Kent and Coastal Primary Care Trust. Given that our hospitals are overcrowded and underfunded why are they sinking money into this project?

where does dover pride get its money from?
how, on earth, are the east kent and coastal primary care trust involved in this project?

Now the picture becomes clearer .Perhaps now you will understand when I said truth willout
I do not understand why "truth" can't be shared at any time. Why does it have to drip out of the local councils? What is wrong with a bit of up-front transparency?

Well I have kept my head down on this one believing that those who know best have the details correct. I have seen no costings of a capital or running nature. I also was not involved in the planning process.
However I understand the concerns of those that live nearby and the concerns of Dovorians that are desperate for something to attract people to the centre.
Having seen what the thing is and its size - I am seeing a monstrosity in size and design. It doesnt fit in in any way with the open space we have. Pity it wasnt put above Geering and Collyer for example. The facilities in the Square are inadequate to accommodate it and it must be a maintenance nightmare creating a money pit. I havent even got to the point of asking who is controlling the content.
From a pure planning point of view how on earth did this get through the over strict regime of DDC Planning Department?
I was told its free - where are these costs coming from all of a sudden? please could someone send me a total financial breakdown - esp cost /benefit analysis. I ask also how many days is this expected to be working? Not sure who is in control here , would be grateful if they could contact me because one cost is certainly not right!
But having said that I hope it works now we have it or someones job ought to be on the line....

David H I have always had the greatest respect for you because I believe you are in politics for the right reason .You are also a person with great knowledge .
Im pleased to see your comments re the screen .The points you make re the design and fitting in with the open space were all points I made .
I was advised because i was on planning for ten years and one time Chairman to try and put across the objectors view .I also wanted to help the residents of Dolphin House.
If you read the planning report the officers did not give a recommendation .Reading between the lines I would say they were not in favour ,
What was amazing at the meeting when the application was passed how many officers were present and how the Chief Excutive spoke for the application .
In 22 years I have never seen anything like it .
Is it any wonder I said what I did and was removed from the cabinet .I was trying to stop an action which DDC will regret .
The screen is far too dominant
The lights are blocked out and what chance for the flower beds which are soon to be planted
