I agree with nearly all of you,Wednesday afternoon would be quiet in the Town and having a thousand people there would add to the footfall and yes some food/drink places could or would make a fortune.I believe that this is not the real reason though!!!
The cost to screen the matches I was told was £62,000 and although most of the money as I understand it came from DDC and DTC I have heard that they couldn't raise all the money. Also I heard that the first game went off without any trouble but in the second game there was a little trouble and I wonder if this is another reason,if that is the case no one would travel by train as the Police are at the Train Station almost every night.Good to see the coverage on the Telly, but I believe Sid's posting is brilliant and we Sid and I don't agree on much. The other good news is they showed Mick Sergeant and David Ridley and cut Aspy's bit out!

Don't forget to get behind our national team today, giving our support with patriotic fervour behind the white, blue and red flag with the stirring tune of the 7th stanza of Zdravljica bringing a tear to the eye
Oops! Wrong team

Is the World cup a replay of WW11 The French have surrendered, The Italians have capitulated, the Yanks came in at the last and we are left to beat the bloody Germans.

This World Cup is certainly an eye-opener with teams that were once minnows outplaying national teams who would normally blaze their way into the last sixteen. New Zealand's goalkeeper will be snapped up by a top european side in no time methinks. Japan Wow!

Anyone else nervous about the Germany match tomorrow? Despite the outbreak of national euphoria over a 1-0 drubbing of the mighty Slovenia, I can't help but think the Germans look better than us. I know that Joachim Loew is concerned over taking on England, so it would seem nerves abound on both sides. Let us hope that the match is not a nervy affair. And that England win

Not nervous Andy, excited at the prospect of our national team hitting the form we hope for. It'd be excellent if we could get 4 or 5 goals in against Germany - and hope they don't get 5 or 6! Think of the national pride come Monday morning if we thrash them.
Germany has looked impressive so far, but, like us they've played a bunch of nobody'd and thrashed them. Well, they thumped the convict team anyway.
They are a young side and not tournament hardened, so I hope our experience will see us through. I am nervous because I so want us to win and shut that Fritz Beckandbower bloke up, and then, take on the Argies.

i have been on tenterhooks for the last two days, why do we make it so hard for ourselves.
first we have the penalty king germans, should we survive that then the cheating malvinas thieves.
if we get past those two we are merely in the semi finals.
beginning to look impossible.
never mind still wimbledon "come on tim".

how can you say that brian?
tim is our hero year in year out at wimbledon. all i hear about now is some scottish person without a personality speaking in a variety of accents.
long may tim live.
"cheating malvinas thieves", Brilliant Howard, just brilliant!
Incidentally our route to the Final is a quite scarey read:
Last 16 v Germany
Last 8 v Argentina
Semi v Spain
Final v Brazil
Assuming there are no further upsets of course.
If Fabulous Fabio can deliver where Sven failed he should receive a Johnny Foreigners Knighthood from Good Queen Bess, and also be given a personal song sheet with the national anthem words on it.
