Typical Trump ' taken unilaterally and without consultation'. Full of ambiguity.
US authorities now playing catch up and making it up as they go along.
Not good.

Naughty Brian but true, not that I wish the old boy ill or even Nadine, obviously a dangerous job being Health Minister.
I hope Tom Hanks recovers soon, I like most of his films and he is good entertainment whenever he is on the Graham Norton show.

A lot of it is unknown and just supposition Brian. Although I
will take onboard his advice regarding looking after the elderly, so will do my best to keep away from my grandparents.

There is so much hysteria about this virus from the experts down to the man in the street.
I feel sorry for our medics who will now be inundated with those worrying because they have a simple cough, a temperature or fever I can understand. Going by the latest advice I should have contacted them as I had and still have a B awful cough which is something I always get when I get a cold, so it is normal for me.

Best advice for us old farts to avoid catching it is to stay well away from doctors’ surgeries and A&E departments at hospitals. Listen to advice from The Donald and then do the opposite.

I hope it’s not a ‘hacking’ cough Jan. I’m not prone to paranoia but I think I’ll run a deep scan on my computer as a precaution though.

The media are obsessed with the virus, everything on BBC1 lunchtime news was Coronavirus related. It is hardly worth bothering with news programmes anywhere at the moment, they are all as bad as each other.

Apologies for quoting myself, but it looks like this is actually the plan, and not just a 'theory', i.e. to 'allow the disease to move through the population'. Otherwise Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief science adviser, wouldn't be talking about 'herd immunity':
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51865915. As there's no vaccine yet (the usual way to bring about herd immunity), it's achieved when enough of a population
contract, survive and become immune to the virus to lower substantially the chances of contagion. Of course, many will fall at the first hurdle. In any case, not enough is yet known about the virus to say whether herd immunity is even achievable this way: this coronavirus is reckoned to be seasonal, and that means it could develop strains that require new vaccines.

Thank God we didn't have social media during WW2 with everyone and his dog commenting on War Department strategy and tactics + random army personnel phoning up radio talk shows.

Back in WW2 time we would probably not even have been told about this virus. More than likely it would have been kept quiet or at best portrayed as biological warfare by the enemy.
Come to think of it maybe we could blame the Russians, they seem to get the blame for most things that go wrong.

You must be a mind reader Captain as I saw a picture of someone on the Tube the other day wearing a gas mask which brought back memories of my experiences as a child in WW2.
The daily tally of deaths was in millions and when the bombers came over during the night we would hide under the blankets to shelter from any bombs that might be coming our way...........we were never told that hand washing would be a good deterrent!
As for stockpiling food, you took your ration book and got what you were allowed at the shops, with the gardens providing a spasmodic supply of vegetables!
As for stockpiling toilet rolls......a hook......some string......and neat squares/strips of whatever paper came to hand!
My point? .........just saying.
