Allez les Bleus!
France shouldn't need a main de Dieu to make a Messi of Argentina and stick it up M*r*d*n* in the last 16.

What a wonderful game that was and what a discovery the French teenager Mbappi is.

Having scored with a perfect lob for the France v Argentina game, I've earned a free kick at the next one. With Suarez Uruguay will have too much bite for Portugal, and Cristiano will be singing a fado at full-time.

Much as I love Portugal with its friendly people and great food I hope they lose because I cannot stand Cristiano Ronaldo.
Warning
Our match on Tuesday is on ITV and we have only ever won 9% of world cup matches since 1998 screened live by them.

We are being served up a great selection of treats and I had high hopes of today's matches but both exceeded expectations. This could turn out to be one of the great World cups.

Even with Tolstoy in goal, a front-line of Chekhov, Zamyatin and Bulgakov, a midfield of Bunin, Pushkin, and Gorky, and with Turgenev, Lermontov, Dostoyevsky and Leskov in defence, I expect a quixotic performance from them today with Russia bidding good Knight as Cervantes musters the Spanish romantics for a place in the QFs.

I think the football over all is good but also we need to thank Russia all the grounds are very good and the supporters are being looked after, the police are doing a good job so all round a very good world cup up till now.

That French teenager Mbappe is donating all his match fees at the World Cup to a disabled childrens charity on the grounds he doesn't think he should be paid for representing his country.

The England sqaud all donate their match fees to charity and have been doing so for at least 10 years. No big story here.

I think Russia have been playing for penalties, now we will find out if it was worth it to them.

Heroic. Pleased for Russia. I'm sure they'll play a different game against Croatia or Denmark; they've some good players and showed signs in the group stage. Spain's tiki-taka wasn't up to the Russian resolution.
As to tonight's game, Denmark are not a bad side, but I think Croatia will be the ugly ducklings here.

Bit of a slow start in the Croatia/Denmark game, hopefully it will liven up later.

Surely not a penalty shoot out again?
I thought Spain and Croatia would win comfortably today which shows how much I know.

We really won't have a better chance of winning a major tournament as we have now.
Even getting to the final will do.

With the Croatians all at sea yesterday, the Danes should have pillaged freely, but failed to beach their longships.
As for this afternoon, as much as I dislike the Brazilian hype, history's on their side here. But, given the surprises of the last couple of games, I'm hoping for a mariachi rather than a samba.
