It’s been quite a pleasant event so far with no violence, among the fans at least, to get too excited about and has replaced violent programmes like Emmerdale in our household.
It’s good to see a young team playing so well with no obvious diva’s strutting around!

TV audience for yesterday's game reached 24 million and it might be higher when we play Sweden on Saturday afternoon. Should be a much better game as our opponents play a straightforward game with no cheating or gamesmanship.

Who remembers this when Stan Collymore beat the S**t out of Ulrike Johnson in a previous World Cup tournament?

I rather fancy the underdogs in the two matches tomorrow, I believe that Uruguay have the nous to keep the French teenage star under control and Belgium have shown a surprising team spirit that has been hidden until now. They have many match winners in their team and N****r may find an uncompromising opponent in Vincent Kompany unless a stiff wind in the warm up renders him unfit to play.

Much as I find Neymar's stabbed windmills a WC highlight (knocks the old hold-the-wrong-part-of-your-body-and-fall-over-as-if-hit-by-a-club-hammer maneuver into a cocked hat) I'm going for Belgium. Brazil don't play the high pressing game that Japan almost undid Belgium with, and Martinez eventually showed he could make the right tactical changes. Besides, Brazil's kit is too much like Sweden's for my liking.
As for the other game, I'm still disappointed that Suarez hasn't used his favourite body part yet and worried that he might not have a chance to use it after today, as I think France will take this one. I do hope that Griezmann has worked on his goal celebration since the Argentina game, though, as it looked rather like a child at the back of the class indicating to his teacher that he needed to use the toilet.

A tale of two keepers and the Uruguayan one will doubtless get death threats upon returning home.

I can not imagine some of the previous captains doing this in the middle of the World Cup, what a nice thing to do.

I have noticed that the manager, captain and players have come across as very down to earth unlike some of the prima donnas that have gone to major tournaments before and delivered nothing.

Probably why England have done so well and will continue to do so, they are a team who actually want to win rather than a bunch of overpaid celebrities.

Another memorable game tonight that leaves just 6 European countries left in the tournament.

Some charity clarity:

£5 million distributed to charity in the past 11 years. Not a bad effort.

I think it is wrong that anyone should get "paid" for the honour of being selected to play for their country.
This really shows how much money the FA has to (in my opinion) waste instead of openly helping out the multitude of small clubs who struggle to carry on.
http://englandfootballersfoundation.com/ This is a great charity that should only be supported out of the players regular wages.

Jan
there is a lot in what you say
a few years back the FA to please the premier league clubs('to give them even more) reduced the winnings in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup
for non league clubs like Dover the FA cup brings in much needed extra revenue
although not dependent on it for some small clubs it helps them to survive.
Rather than reducing the amounts paid at the lower levels, they should be increasing it and reducing the sums paid to premier clubs.
of course the FA is probably terrified the premier clubs will break away from the FA if they did so.
But grass roots football are the ones struggling for survival, the FA appear to have got it the wrong way round.

Two tasty games coming up. I'm split between Croatia and Russia: there are match-winners in both squads. But although I think Croatia have the edge with their attack and free-flowing game, Russia will be on a high after seeing off Spain and showed in that game that they could stifle through organisation and resolute defending. So I'm going for Russia. I'd dearly like to see them at least in the SFs as the country's reward for hosting such a marvellous tournament.
As for the other QF, as much as I'd like to see England send the Swedes flat-packing I don't think it'll be that easy. They're a well-organised, defensively robust, counter-attacking side and will be the fresher having won their last match within 90 minutes. Besides, since many of them play over here they know the English game well. What's more, England were guilty of some wayward passing when under pressure from Colombia (especially Walker and Stones). Nevertheless, and especially if Southgate replaces the ineffective Sterling and takes a chance on Rashford, when all is said and done it'll be one of us, but the winner takes it all and it's thank you for the music but hasta mañana Sweden.

I don't think the style of play really suits Sterling. Expectations are a bit unrealistic with many people thinking we will win the tournament, before it started most of us would have settled happily to reach the last eight. I hope the players do not feel pressurised by the headlines and just play their normal game.
