we never voted for a deal, we voted for independence.
I think the conservative party will haemorrhage votes if independence isn't properly delivered?

Rather sweeping as we all voted for different things, I doubt many voted for the confused state we are all in at present.

I think the majority voted for independence from the EU dictatorship that has grown and grown. It allowed in those countries that milked the system that more affluent better run countries had to pay into.
The open boarder policy might be of benefit to trade but also allowed the riff-raff to cross into countries that did not need them or want them. An example being the NHS might have employed some skilled from those countries but at the same time how much has it cost to treat those unskilled, unemployable who immediately became pregnant or were or have become seriously ill.
My analogy would be it is nice seeing your friends but you might not want them living with you for months or even years.

To be fair to HMG Seaborne get nothing if they fail to deliver a service
To be unfair to HMG it ought to be noted that at least one of the main shareholders is one of the Bamfords, who are major Conservative donors and leading brexiteers - make of this what you will.

Part of a press release issued today by Thanet District Council.
"We recognise that Ramsgate could play a role in supporting post-Brexit resilience by offering an alternative route for some cross-Channel traffic, to ensure at least some movement of goods should there be significant delays in Dover. As part of this the council has reviewed the capability of the Port of Ramsgate to provide capacity to support the Brexit position which, with an investment of £26 million, includes the potential for up to 24 sailings a day which would create capacity to divert 3,360 lorry movements per day from Operation Brock from the M20 and M26 significantly reducing pressure from the Port of Dover during peak traffic flows. This would be especially beneficial to the ‘Just in Time’ production processes and logistics for example the chilled food sector."
They have been looking to get a service back up and running since Trans Europa went under but why would they need £26 million if Seaborne Freight take over the running of the service from there and any risk is down to them?

An article pretty good on the current facts of life, although with no mention of inland clearance:

There are still people that think he knows what he is talking about.
"The Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has often quoted a statistic that it takes only six seconds to complete customs checks for goods arriving at the port of Southampton from outside the EU. There is, he has suggested, no reason why ports such as Dover cannot implement similar systems. "

# 3114 - I think I detect a note of irony in your remark, Howard. Definitely not salacious gossip. Just a well researched piece of journalism. I'm guessing the answers will be forthcoming when our parliamentarians deign to return to work. Howker's point was the most critical - how can you claim to be addressing an issue of "extreme urgency" with such an incomplete and seemingly unreliable commercial solution.
On a wider issue, I do hope that the likes of MacDonald and Starmer can push Corbyn to one aside on Brexit, however painful he may feel the blow personally.

Too late for that Ray, Jezza will not be moved and research suggests that although the vast majority of members want a second vote they will still support him even if he doesn't.

I seem to remember the infamous "Gary Gang" making a seamless, frictionless transition through customs. Trotters Independent Traders have more going for them than Seaborne Freight. (Also, they are familiar with the area, being that they are on the record as Margit connoisseurs.)

Sludge-gulpers have started at Ramsgate. I have been assured that TDC is NOT paying for the dredging of the channel. One wonders whether part of the £13 million plus we are giving to Seaborne Freight is going on this?

Behind a paywall Bob but Seaborne have confirmed that they are paying for the dredging.
