They are going down like flies at the Town Council, just been informed that Ron Wright of Town and Pier ward(home to Lord Dixon) has fallen on his sword. I make that three by elections coming up and that is without His Holiness the Mayor deciding to step down.

Town councillors don't get paid. People get cross about DTC but they have very little influence, the problem is DDC.

The problem is too many councils so they all pass the buck blaming each other, while the public have trouble remembering who does what or more importantly who doesn't get on and improve the area.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Agree entirely Jan, some people are or have been Town, District and County Councillors at the same time, there has to be a conflict of interest. Regardless, we have far too many politicians at every level, we simply don't need them.

No Sue, as you know I stood previously but the electorate spoke which I respect. It doesn't stop me getting frustrated by the inadequacies and ineptitude of our local representatives. I know many of them, individually they are very nice and well intentioned but as a group they are dreadful, mainly due to political tribalism.
Likewise the Officers at DDC, I count some as friends, others are stealing a living from taxpayers.

The only statutory responsibility of the Town Council is upkeep of allotments so there is plenty of
scope with the budget they have to do relatively small scale things that brighten up the town which they sometimes do.

Plenty on this forum appear to have time on their hands and ideas, no idea why they don't lift their head above the parapet.

Tomorrow is the closing date for applications to stand in the forthcoming 3 by-elections. Could well be a surprise candidate or two.

Keith Sansum will be making a Lazarus style comeback standing as an Independent in Maxton, Elms vale and Priory. Other candidates are Tammy Stewart for the Tories and a lady from River for Labour.

Keith standing as an Independent?
Has Keith been purged by Labour especially after Keith nominated Peter Wallace for DDC in 2015?
Apart from that, Keith has bags of experience.

Left of his own accord Peter I think he was unhappy with the way things were going, one of them being the "wimmin only" short list which proved to be a disaster at the last General Election. The local party put up a candidate in a by election fairly recently in their safest ward of St Radigunds and lost and the same candidate has been foisted on us here. Keef is saying that it should be someone that lives in the ward and takes an interest rather than someone who just wants the title "Town Councillor" in front of their name.
