Another day and another viewpoint from the President.

Found myself agreeing with the US President today for once on the issue of the statue of the Confederate General. It is a part of their history and if former slaves had demanded its removal in the late 19th century I would have agreed, but a Century and a half later I can't see why it can't just stay where it is. We had this same issue with one of Cecil Rhodes at a South African university a few years back.

Sadly Howard the time they were put up was around the time segregation was being instigated across the state's, long after the end of slavery, and many former slaves protested about these symbols of ongoing white supremacy in these cases i think they need to be removed.

After his ‘Rumble in the Jungle,’ back in Sese Seko’s kooky Zaire, Muhammad Ali was famously asked “Champ, what did you think of Africa?” to which the Champ replied, “Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat.”
What the Hell has happened to the world? A load of people protesting that a group of people long dead, did something rather nasty to their ancestors, also long dead.
You want serious racism? Try down-town Rwanda in the 90's - except we'll call it tribalism.
Try being a Rohingya in whatever we are meant to call Burma nowadays - except we'll call it religious intolerance.
Try being born a Dalit in India - except we'll call it the caste system.
If anyone seriously wishes to protest about slavery please feel free to join me outside the Inland Revenue Office at Centurian House tomorrow morning.
Get a grip world and try to start behaving like grown-ups.

Haul ‘em down, just like those of Stalin in the Soviet satellite states: they serve only as gathering points for the feeble-minded. There are plenty of Confederate (and Union) monuments and war graves (cf. Gettysburg) at which those who are so-minded can pay their respects to the Civil War dead, without the attendant stink of racial superiority.
This has nothing to do with erasing, distorting or falsifying ‘history’: every detail of the Civil War is well-documented, excessively so, and in that respect a few bronze statues here or there aren't worth a kepi. If and when the attempt to ‘edit’ Huckleberry Finn for a 'modern' readership succeeds then I’m on your side.
By the way, many have tried to harness Orwell to the cause of the Right, of that of the Left, and they've all failed: remember, in Spain he fought neither with the Fascists nor with the International Brigades, but with the anarchists.

Nah. The idiots are wanting those changed too. Apparently you can't be 'valiant' if you back the wrong side?

Get a grip you silly people. Most of the world is laughing at you.
I certainly am.
How about getting the Germans to tear down this memorial to the Luftwaffe since they were backing the side responsible for the Holocaust?

I think that nine times out of ten it is wrong to remove statues unless the person is a truly awful person.
I can imagine the outcry if that was one of our heroes like Nelson or Churchill who because of a change in opinion about them and what they stood for their statues were to be removed.

I think Deputy President Mike Pence is watching the situation carefully ready to step into Trump's shoes, he does all the day to day running of the country as it is.
