Rather strange that the Greens intend to contest the new ward of Maxton and Elms Vale which will make it all the more likely that the Tory will win it.
If Nigel Collor does stand in Whitfield which one of the two current incumbents will step down?

Final reminder for budding councillors, papers must be in by 4 pm tomorrow at DDC headquarters and then according to the rules of purdah must keep schtum until all the votes are counted on the 3rd of May.

Fairly common knowledge for about 6 months Sue, I believe John Heron is not standing either.

More the shame in both cases, each having got involved in local politics trying to 'make a difference' for local people rather than pursuing an 'agenda'.

The Green Party would have more success if they were not so far to the left. If they were more centrist I might consider voting for one of their candidates because I believe that we should nurture our environment and stop sh***ing on our own doorsteps. But they aren’t putting one up in my ward apparently so it’s a straight fight between Tory OAPs and Labour OAPs as far as I can see. We need younger blood in our councils but every time we get a keen young ‘un they get disillusioned and drop out.

I have always thought the Greens should be more neutral in their political outlook if they want to succeed with their ideals.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

A couple of snippets from the list of candidates, Henry Bolton's latest party is fielding 4 candidates one of whom is a current independent councillor on DDC.
Jamie Rose is standing for the Tories in Alkham and Capel Le Ferne which should keep him in with his boss.

You have got 2 candidates from your part of the ward Brian and I have got none. I believe we have 5 votes I will probably use one of them.

Got a Labour leaflet through the door earlier and one of the key points was to "develop a not for profit district bus service to restore and improve access for all", highly laudable but I fail to see how this can be done considering all our out lying villages(not River) are fairly spread it would have to be heavily subsidised or charge hefty fares.

Yes thats just 1 of the lies in that leaflet Howard,
From their manifesto:
"Develop a not-for-proft bus company with neighbouring councils and other partners when the current operator’s franchise runs out."
Aspirational at best?
