I think if they lose Batley
We will see Mr Starmer leave or pushed .
I'm with Sue on the need for an effective opposition
..
For two years or more iv being trying to encourage cllrs to attend our community assoc
I have to say most parties failed in thus
We are thankful the green cllr at least attends and gets her hands dirty helping, advising ,
A lot of the community have stopped voting in our area
Labour now saying due to the poor results they now need to get involved in communities
Putting up already failed 3 times candidates like the one in st rads doesn't help

If you listen to her talk you would think she knows exactly how labour could start winning again! Unfortunately if you understand what she is saying, you'll realise she is absolutely clueless as to why Labour are in such a state.
She still thinks Corbyn had nothing to do with the drubbing they received at the GE!
Thank the gods she didn't get elected up my way.

Reginald
Our area which HAD a lot of labour voters
Turned up to vote her out when she stood here .
She came last !
Before that I understand she lost in Deal .
Then labour thought they could sneak her into one of its safest seats
Thankfully enough locals made sure that didn't happen.
The worry for labour shouldn't only be they continue to put up failed candidates , but also they are getting into a habit of losing this seat .
Brian
I'm sorry glad you keep the belief
So, first it's all Boris fault ,
Corbyns long gone
Who's next to blame for next 20 years when labour loses ?

So we are coming now to realise
It's the electorate that's not supporting labour
Soon you might even come round to understanding why

Putting aside what 'Brexit inspired populism' actually means, it is precisely
because this kind of thinking predominates in Labour that the party has been rejected in those areas in which it matters. This is the party's fault line, not the phoney 'Left' and 'Right' business. Labour is only just beginning to see the importance of this. And that's too late.

Labour has a lot of errors to catch up on, for sure. But I'm more concerned with facts than pseudo waffle.
Here's a perfect example of the electorate being fed total BS. If you've a problem with the meaning of this one, then I'll explain sometime. Perhaps.

You mean Johnson's a power-hungry, unprincipled, bluffing weakling with a history of mendacity that began in swaddling clothes, and the BBC's a No 10 propaganda outlet? Blimey, this is news to me. More such revelations please.
And all the while Labour, and its supporters, continue to fabricate an ignorant electorate ('fed total BS') as the cause of the party's misfortunes it'll deserve its place on the sidelines.

So with Labour out for over 20 years things are looking grim ..
The lib Dems were the next biggest party but they lost many seats to the Green party who have made quite a few gains at this election
Labours locally obviously not getting it's message across with the green party candidate getting 900 votes just 100 short of a far bigger lab party...
I'm sure there will be major enquiry
But I'm not so sure local labour will learn

If Labour do not sort themselves out and the trend continues I think the Greens could become the next major party in a few years, at least they have policies apart from simply Tory bashing.

Keith, I wondered what was the message Labour were not getting across locally?

I think Paul most politicians as you know as you have jumped ship to safer seats in your time, have stopped listening and now just expect people to turn out.
As was shown on Hartlepool
The Tories didn't win the seat themselves , it was labour voters staying away
Locally the message is clear
Like in st rads don't put up failed candidates or you won't get the vote .
For never seen Nigel to win is clear that supporters for labour being unable to beat him a clear message
Don't take the vote for granted .
There is s real change from these safe seats now,
Seeing seats fall when on days of old it would be like the Liverpool council of today
No Tories here and none elected
But these times are coming fast where the old traditional just vote is your family did , or its an ex mining area has long gone
Slowly this message is getting across
Time for all politicians to involve themselves on communities .
When councillors refuse to come along then lose seats you can see why !
But of course Paul you know all this already

I wrote some time ago that the Government needed to pass two tests:
1. Get some kind of Brexit deal, and
2. Successfully roll out the vaccine
They did both. That has left Labour with nothing in its locker and I, like so many, are left wondering what on earth they stand for. However, when you hear Andy Burnham speak - it becomes obvious. He immediately connects with people and is genuinely convincing. But he's not the leader, so we are where we are. Quite how Labour recovers from this position I have no idea....

A shame Andy Burnham is not the party leader, he always gives the impression he knows what he is talking about............ Plus being completely not politically correct I find him easy on the eye.

Interesting interview with Burnham here ( + Adonis and Paul Embery) - and a bit of an insight of what GB News might be like :-

Clearly labour now has an identity crisis .
Thankfully Neil has recognised this , Brian still out in the wilderness , maybe will come round soon.
It is good Labour holds on to the likes of Burnham the leader in Wales, and some councillors across the country .
But they have such an uphill battle now which I'm not sure they will recover from .
With so many avenues of debate labour could have to hold the Govt to account , putting to the top of attack was Boris and his house decoration , although important , there were bigger fish to fry.
Both at the National and for some time the local level people have lost faith in them .
Heartland votes disappearing .
As I said before losing locally
Mill Hill
And
St Rads (again)
Safe seats in the past for Labour shows they have list there way.
Trouble now is how do they become electable again?
Move to the middle England voters as Blair did and become a second rate Tory party , and it's membership won't get out on doorstep to get message across
Move to the left like Corbyn and look to be unelectable .
They look at this time to be in a no win situation

Labour has a free gift with the Indian variant. Johnson left the border wide open to India, knowing damn well that the variant was out of control there, because he was so desperate for a trade deal. That decision looks like it is going to prevent the full opening up on 21 June. That is 100% on Boris and his recklessness.
