Like I say, we're in a holding pattern so there's nothing to judge. To be more specific, we're all waiting for the manifestos. Both will be interesting as it's the most obvious ideological battleground.
You can understand why Labour is keeping things tight at the moment, it's miles ahead in the polls without having to do anything at all. Murdoch just supports the winning team, he doesn't care what they stand for.

Neil
Are you kidding me?
Murdoch does care who is in power .
Labour has decided it's route already (Liverpool again the latest example)
If working people have little or no protection from Starmer (again which you avoided to reply to)
Then there's really no point in voting Labour .

Who would you prefer as PM, Keith: Sunak or Starmer? That's the choice we have.

That's the point Neil
There is no choice
Starmer is no better than Sunak
So the answer is neither .
Wonder how low in numbers the Labour membership will get to before Neil gets to the answer

The party membership number is not really important unless you think of the funding side but who votes where is all that that really counts.
People from a certain "class" who felt they had to follow and support a particular party are long gone. They are more educated and able to think for themselves, now the high flying boss could be from a cloth cap and council estate background or nobility.
As for the next PM at the moment Starmer is fairly bland as is the present PM and both came from more affluent backgrounds than many of us on here or their their followers. I fail to understand anyone who would choose or prefer someone like either Corbyn or Johnson over the present choices.

No idea what rays comments about .....
Jan
I think you answer your own observations .
If , as you stay Starmer is bland , if gives you little it no choice at next election .
Everyone is aware on Tories and how they treat everyone , at least you know they are going to scree you.
Starmer lied to get leadership bringing party together, done the complete opposite .
So it's correct
The every day person will just see even more people not voting .
There is no doubt Starmer will win , not on ability on popular .,or good policies believed in by all
But because Tories are so unpopular .
Still waiting Neil .......lol

But I can still choose which "bland" version I prefer as the next PM so there is still a choice. An extremist could completely F things up for many years with some of their weird policies so I would never vote for a person like that.
I would be prepared to bet most leaders at any election I can remember are chosen because they were popular to the majority at the time, Johnson being a prime example.
Your failure to understand Ray's comment surprises me, even I understood what he meant.

The membership, while important, is not what gets you elected. Voters get you elected. As such, I'm not that concerned about membership numbers per se.
Honestly, the Tories are at the end of a long political cycle and it's time for change. Starmer is fortunate in that regard as timing has worked brilliantly for him.

Whilst I may not always agree with her policies
This is just part of Neil's parties wanting to rid itself of anyone who has a different view .
Abbott obviously has wide support in her seat

Maybe they should both stand as independents. I'd be interested to see the results in her and JC's constituencies.

Maybe, but I struggle to see it happening. Both must realise that their time has come and that trying to delay it might risk the continuation of the worst period of government this country has seen for decades. Whatever your degree of 'leftness', the fact that Labour won 3 elections fom 1997 to 2010 and has subsequenly lost 4 since should concentrate anyone's mind if they've half a mind to use it.

Which is strange when you remember that Corbyn was the leader of the party but three years ago 2015-2020) and the entire Shadow Cabinet claimed to be working for a labour victory espousing totally different policies.
Are the Labour Party merely paying lip-service to policy and willing to do anything to sound electable or has the leopard changed his/her/their spots, relying on an army of transexual white kids (see patient ethnicity at Tavistock clinic) and their intersectional fellow travellers to subvert capitalist domination of society in their long mince through the institutions?

That old chestnut, they all supported JC at the election. They did. They lost. Public rejected it. New direction needed. Simple as that.

OK Neil ignore the JC comment.
Here's the last manifesto (as explaines to a six year old!) If they really believed in it why has it mostly been dumped for Tory-lite?
Presumably the Labour party no longer believes in 'socialism'?
At least the SWP, WRP, Communists etc stick to their beliefs.

Because it was rejected by the public. The next election is next year and a new Manifesto will inform Labour's ambitions for government.
