Um, one question I haven't heard the PM candidates quizzed on yet is the future of the triple-lock pension. Given what happened last time around, is that nice Ms Truss going to do the decent thing or the dastardly thing? Asking for a friend.

I think Liz Truss promised that she would stick with the current plan to reinstate it next year.

The two leading candidates are both on the right of the party and won't want to upset the apple cart , where as out there where people are struggling is where both major parties need to engage with .
I suspect though that they will just turn up expecting you to vote for them

Yeah? Most of the Conservative voters I know think both of them are dreadful lefty liberals and would like Boris back!

Sorry Captain but that says a lot about the sort of people you "know", most people I know, on all political sides of the proverbial fence, dislike or do not trust all three of them.

Right. Perhaps you should point out to them that there's no chance of the yoof of Deal grafting away at a new inward-investment Peppa Pig World in Walmer on account of there already being one elsewhere. And allegedly lack of graft.

Don't trust all three of them either, or all 650 of them now you come to mention it!

You have hit the nail on the head
I think far too many of us have completely lost trust in politicians at all levels from local to government. Far to many of them forget we are better educated and informed than we were even 50yrs ago so it is not so easy to fool us as it used to be.

I backed Truss at 5:1 and so, big gambler that I am, that's £5 profit in the bag.

Nothing much to change
Still pushing towards right
And little different
I have concerns over how she's going to pay for all she wants to introduce

What?
In 2021/22, UK government raised over £915 billion a year in receipts – income from taxes and other sources. This is equivalent to around 39% of the size of the UK economy, as measured by GDP, which is the highest level since the 1980s.
In the 2022-23 tax year, there will be over six million people paying income tax at the higher rate of 40% on income over £50,270. The rise is significant; in 2019 there were 4.3 million people paying tax at the higher rate. The number paying the 45% additional tax rate on income over £150,000 has also increased, from 421,000 to 629,000.
Billions borrowed during Covid for furlough to stop economy collapsing.
Now talk of borrowing up to £100 billion to (foolishly) cap gas/electricity bills.
NHS commissioning budget for 2022/23 £153 billion (Over £2250 for every man woman and child in UK)
Pushing towards the right?

So far, not as bad as it could be (unless you live in Guston and are worried about fracking vs solar panel farms): for instead of 'Get Energy Done' we had 'Deliver, Deliver, Deliver'. Gosh, shades of 'Education, Edukashun, Edikashunne'.

I agree with Bob to an extent. This Tory government likes to "talk" to the right, and float lots of gesture policies (like Rwanda), but this is a distraction for the usual suspects. Government actions are more socialist than you'd think - to the point that Labour can feel pretty pleased with itself for driving policy in opposition.

Regardless of party loyalties.
It is worth noting a party can only go to the extremes for a little while then practicalities set in and if they want power then they have to follow a more neutral brief.
