Council tenants in Dover District could benefit from an improved housing service if proposals published today get the go ahead. The proposals outline a unique project that would see Canterbury, Dover District, Shepway and Thanet councils jointly managing council housing in East Kent.

Dover District Council is laying the foundations for future achievement for regeneration of the district and is making good progress with projects to bring homes, jobs and services to the area, according to a new national report.

A major boost for the future of the area is celebrated today with the official launch of the full high speed train service for Kent - and representatives from Dover District Council and Dover Pride regeneration partnership were among those at the launch in London.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, Dover District Council offices at Whitfield will be closed from 5pm Thursday 24 December to 9am Monday 4 January.

A follow-up consultation on design options for a creative and innovative play area for Kearsney Abbey, and improvements in Russell Gardens, is being held in the New Year at the Kearsney Abbey play area from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Monday, January 11.

A van driver from Staffordshire was jailed yesterday (22 December 2009) for ten years at Canterbury Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempting to smuggle 42 kilos of heroin into the UK through Dover.
