Don't be so hard on Brian Souter - it is not unknown for him to put in a shift; he still has his PCV licence.

If as Keith says the 61a 06.30 service is so popular would Stagecoach not keep it in house regardless of funding cut?

I don't doubt you Keith but surely then that particular service should not need KCC funding, conversely the Martin service is barely used but an absolute lifeline to at least 2 elderly users i know and thus should be funded. Let's hope Carter and co have a rethink.

Rather inane stuff from our politicians who no doubt have not used a bus since school days. 33% cut in funding since 2010 explains why so many rural areas are cut off.

love this bit about giving councils extra powers with out adding with less money.
“Buses are vital for communities, connecting people, homes and businesses and we have given councils extra powers to work in partnership with bus companies to improve the service passengers expect and deserve.”

This Uber type service is clearly a good idea in this instance where people working on an industrial estate/science park want to get into the nearest town and back but is not workable anywhere else.
Most rural travellers are elderly and less likely to use a smart phone and would have to pay full fare.

It's always worth getting in touch with your ward councillor. It's often surprising what they can do (Especially when dealing with a bus stop opposite their house!)

When talking just on bus stops the shelter on the main road just off Wood Avenue in Folkestone is community run, a lot of volunteers giving up there time to look after it.
Worth considering in some areas tram shelter comes to mind

in the mean time buses degenerate rapidly.

A number 63 broke down in Priory Street early afternoon and its replacement bus had no electrics working so there was a lot of confusion from passengers as to where the bus was headed.

Since Christmas the 68 bus has been unable to cover Westbury Crescent because of badly parked cars in Belgrave Road that arrived just before the holiday and clearly the owners think that as they are staying put until the new year everybody else should do the same. True to form the bus drivers put themselves out and get as far up the hill as they can before reversing back down into Clarendon Street then turning around which is not the easiest thing to do.

Just had a look at the Stagecoach website as the 100/101/102 was supposed to change from running at 15 minute intervals to 20 minute intervals in the daytime Monday-Saturday. I done a journey plan for late January and the timetables are unchanged from the present.

Walking into town earlier I was surprised to see how many people were waiting at bus stops apparently unaware that we don't have buses on New Year's day. Even more surprising was that all looked young enough to be savvy with their smart phones and capable of looking up the Stagecoach website. It appears the older generation simply took a leaflet that has been in holders on buses for weeks now giving holiday timetables or they simply remembered what happens year on year.
