Two girls in their late teens were standing at the bus stop outside the Captain Webb development in Folkestone Road this morning. I stopped and explained that there were no buses today but they seemed to think I was senile as they were still there about 40 minutes later when I returned from Town. I hope it doesn't snow tonight,

Here we go again the 68 bus could only get as far as Clarendon street for the past two days due to works vehicles causing an obstruction in Belgrave Road. The right hand side going up is partly double yellowed but needs to be fully. I have now started the ball rolling with DDC Parking division to see what they can do.

I was told by a couple of people that double yellows were supposed to be all along the right hand side going up but two people refused to move their cars so part of the road was left alone, I don't know how true that is Keith.

It seems a bit of a grey area on double yellow lines as KCC seem to have control over all roads but local councils implement actions such as ticketing vehicles. KCC should have a say in the matter as it is their bus service that is suffering.

Does not help my cause to get a direct bus service into Dover.

Your problem rather pales into insignificance Sue whilst many rural areas were due to lose their lifeline and people around here not being able to get work due to early services being cut out.

We have subsided routes here in River.many River residents cannot get to Canterbury now as they took away our direct route. They need to get to work in Canterbury and the students to college.

In other words they are being inconvenienced which set against the ones I mentioned in 232 is frankly laughable.

A life line as opposed to an inconvenience, I know which is the more important.

Thankfully the leader of KCC saw the problems and kicked the cabinet member out
lets hope a wiser decision with good consultation now takes place

Was told earlier that Regent coaches will be tendering for the 68 service when the contract comes up for renewal at KCC next month.

Much of Regent's business is KCC contracted services so that is not surprising. There is nobody else to challenge Stagecoach at this end of the county nowadays unless Bayliss decide to expand beyond school services.

They had the contract before and they were surprised at losing out to Stagecoach although they got one of their routes in the bidding. Stagecoach then tried to cut out part of the route but public opinion forced them to amend things a little so it could carry on. Despite KCC backing down on the proposed cuts many think they will wait until the heat dies down and then make some savings which will hit Regent so they will be very keen to get the 68 back.

At the meeting in Maidstone today KCC decided to cut £455,000 from the budget for socially necessary bus services which is lower than previously planned.
