KCC councillors could donate their expenses to this much needed bus service, but I will not hold my breath. Fewer buses means more traffic or increased isolation for some.

Jan I have noticed more staff are coming to the nursing home now by car.The bus times are not good for their duties.More cars on the road than ever. I ,know what you mean by isolation,if I was bored at the weekend I would hop on a bus to Canterbury .Buses into Dover now take longer and they have cut the afternoon services

So what has KCC done about bringing in a franchising system for buses as under the Bus Services Act 2017?

'Auction' blocks of routes with an obligation to provide services on routes with a specified level of service.

Correct. This is not 'joined up' thinking. We need to start looking at analysis of 'big data' to provide transport solutions rather than 'it's either car or bus or train or bicycle'and utilising behavioural psychology to 'nudge' people into getting the whole eco-system working efficiently.
It's 2017 for Heaven's sake. The rest of Europe is laughing at us.

Couldn't agree more about the fake concern of Kent MPs regarding cuts to bus services.

This is something KCC did not think of or if they did they did not care, I expect they drive everywhere in their cars then get ready to claim their petrol or diesel money.

Chronically misleading article as the services under threat are very early morning and on Sunday so kids will get to school, people will get to work and get to GP and hospital appointments.

Not all those under threat are early or Sundays, Howard - the 541 group, for example, provide a shopping service (recently revised to cover areas Stagecoach stopped serving). However, given the subsidy per passenger, they can't be very well used!

The article centres on the Aycliffe/Whitfield service Lew that might inconvenience Mr Dixon slightly but not the majority of people. Country services are a different issue altogether.

As per usual no buses on Boxing day or New Years day other than to Canterbury on the former. All shops will be open on those days but staff and customers without their own transport will be cut off.
No trains on Boxing day either.

don't rub it in howard its bad as it is at the moment, what with the time table being alterd and buses being missed out . they cut two out Tuesday morning the 0925 and 0945, that's 40 miniuts of hanging around at a cold windy bus stop in pencester road.

I wouldn't be happy with that Brian, not had any problems with the 68 or 63.

I can't recall when buses last ran on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, until they put on the Canterbury service last year.

Paul Carter now going on the attack accusing the big operators of raising their prices unnecessarily.

He is no doubt unaware that the need to use buses that cost more to buy and more to run is a result of legislation regarding things like emissions and disabled access, so it's not surprising their charges have risen. He also clearly hasn't noticed that a large proportion of the routes concerned are operated by smaller companies such as Regent. The more I hear from Paul Carter the less I believe he lives in the real world!

I wonder when was the last time Paul Carter got on a bus as an ordinary passenger because that was his only way to get from A to B, I suspect about the same time as the head of the Stagecoach group.
