There was a notice on a bus this morning that appeared to indicate new fares and ticket types coming in at the end of the month but nothing on the Stagecoach website so far.

The meeting in New Romney was packed out but most present wanted to give their views on the changes to the timetables of Stagecoach which was not on the agenda. KCC starting the meeting 15 minutes early upset those that arrived at the set time.

Re post 372 .I think it was all a white wash exercise.KCC are not interested. The general public are fed up.Most of the Councillors have cars and don’t know what it is like using buses.I have friends who attend eye clinics and have to get friends to take them by car .No joined up thinking.Clinics attennd are in Ashford. Herne Bay or Margate..Bus services useless and Buckland Hosital Health facility doesn’t do them anymore.

Yes, I was one of many who warned when buses were deregulated that buses would not be run in the interests of the public

It’s very sad .im getting a taxi into town. Before they changed the bus routes etc I would go to Canterbury stay long enough for a bite to eat them home again .What I save on a meal I shall use for taxi fares .The powers of bee keep coming up with ideas how to look after the elderly but they choose to ignore the things that make life easier.Saturday afternoons are useless for bus usage. Whilst we have people in power who do not see the bigger picture things will only get worse.

Just had a look at the consultation document on rural bus services and I think this is the likely option.
"A small bus or taxi would be used to connect people living in rural areas with an existing commercial bus service.
For example, a small minibus would pick up passengers from three villages and connect with Bus A four times a day and do the same for the return journey.
These services would run at fixed times. They would pick up and drop off passengers at fixed stops along the route.
Passengers could wait on the feeder minibus or taxi for their connecting bus to arrive.
Passengers could buy a ticket for the whole journey (feeder service and existing bus).
Advantages Disadvantages More regular journey opportunities We might be able to connect more communities to the commercial bus routes. Passengers will have to change vehicles. Keeps a set timetable .Journeys may take longer. Loss of direct journey."

I don’t think we would use our passes. The changing of buses can be awkward. Especially with walkers and shoppping trolleys .

Another option put forward by KCC.
A bookable bus service would collect passengers from chosen points and take them to a range of places in a set area.
This could be from a pick up point or from the passenger’s home.
Passengers would make a booking by telephone or on the internet. They would say where they want to go and would be told when they could be picked up for their journey.
Bookings could be made 7 days, 1 day or hours before the journey.
Journeys would be shared with other passengers to make them as efficient as possible.

Third and final one.
"Idea 3: Use of taxi-bus style services instead of a bus.
KCC uses taxis for taking some young people from their homes to school.
We can make greater use of these taxis.
of a bus or as a new route, there could be a taxi-bus.
This is a smaller vehicle, such as 7-seater car or minibus.
The taxi-bus would run at fixed times and to a fixed route.
It would stop at fixed stops along the route.
Advantages Disadvantages Not on a fixed route so can provide more journey opportunities Journeys could take longer Is available to passengers when they need it Passengers would need to book in advance Enables better access to locations where customer want to go Booking times and journeys are shared, so passengers will need to be flexible.
The amount passengers pay for their journey depends on where they are going (just like an existing bus)"

Still not the answer .What happened to stopping the use of cars .More River people are reverting to their cars .DDC had this. Policy Agenda 21 years ago .Even had an appointed Cabinet member.I wonders how many K C C members car share or indeed officers.
