13:3538021Had a walk up the park this morning with the woofs and noticed all of the play area cordoned off with herras fencing.
All of the play equipment has gone even the safety flooring.
Please tell me its for refurbishment and not another cut back.
Any of you know whats happening?

13:4038022I'm not sure but when I was up there taking snow pictures last week, I'm fairly certain I saw a sign saying they had been taken for refurbishment.
I'm glad the bird cages are still there, a nice little bright spot. I expect they on on the chop list somewhere though.

there will only be 10 play areas throughout the DDC play areas maintained by DDC the rest will have play equipment taken out.

16:5038041I actually have seen the plans and they were called into Scruity Ian,and although there were issues about the New Play area it looks quite good, the issues were to do with secruity and some of the Councillors wanted lighting. The problem is with the lighting is as Keith would say the 'yoofs' use Connaught more when it is dark than when it is light, which meant that if the lighting was the sensitive sort, only comes on when there is someone there it would have been like Blackpool illuminations at night.
The other strange thing was the Council told the contractors how much money was available not how much the items in the plan would cost, the reason for this and I found it strange at first, was to see which contractor came up with the best specifications like strength of steel, and safety measures. But on the plans it looks good,my biggest concern like Keith is the shutting of all the small olay areas, they run them down and then say it is dangerous then take the equipment out and shut the site,so in Tower Hamlets all the little play areas have gone except in Northbourne,it is the same in St Rad,Maxton and in Deal too.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

16:5938042I am so pleased to hear that monies are being spent on Connaught Park, one of my very favourite places to go all year round! Nearly fell off my chair when I read the first post by Ian, the prospect of loosing the play facilities shook me to the core. I spend a lot of time there and have done ever since I moved to Dover. My girls loved the play area when they were little ones. We play tennis there in the summer, walk Fifi, feed the squirrels and generally just ramble about and enjoy the views. We are blessed to have such a great park, and yes Phil I love the birds, long may they live there for many more years to come

17:5838048Er, John, I wouldn't go down that route of blaming the Conservatives for lack of investment or running down play areas; when Labour were in power for 10 years prior to the Conservatives taking over in 2003, there had been a consistent lack of investment in play area equipment throughout the District and that is why Clarendon play area had its equipment taken away, nothing to do with nasty Tories.
I have been trying very hard to get another play area equipped in the Priory area, butb still don't seem to make any progress.

18:2338054Well now the play area comes to light once again, oh for the days of kids being able to go to the park go on climbing frames, fall off, get bumps and grazes and learnt not to do it again,
Im pleased connaiught is to get a nice state of the art play area, but as ROGER/JOHN Says it is at a cost.
The District council will have ONLY 10 sites across the whole District.
And yep, priory ptromised a play area, and still no sdigns of any movement

sorry to see you make the issue of a play area a party political one, we can all go back over time and criticise the actions of a rival party.
vic/keith
the issue of the £100 grand was raised on here many moons ago, because there were so many differing views on how the money should be spent and at what site, the money was transferred into another pot at the council.
very similar to the money on offer for a hospital, i hope that history does not repeat itself.
