The article in todays edition is not correct re the TV Screen .THe Officers Recommendation is "Members consider the merits of a site visit or visits "
In the Dubris colume they have reprinted Phils amended photo of me .I have sent an Email to Nigel Collor and Paul Boland .
This article in Dover express can and will cause me u due stress I have grandchildren and children can be very unkind to each other .My permission was never sought to have this put up on the forum .My Daughter was very upset .I think an apology all round is called for .I will be hauling the Editor of the Express over the coals .
A joke is a joke but not when it leads to reprecussions .

It's a shame your upset about the photo Sue.I am sure that no-one on the forum wished you any ill by it.I understand your concerns re your grandkids but I am afraid that you gave up your right to total privacy and control of the press the moment you put your hat into the very public ring and life of being a Tory Town Councillor.
I am sure Cherie Blair did not enjoy all the mickey teasing about her dress sense, smile and hairstyles following her husband becoming PM but she had to endure it and she wasn't even standing for public offence.
No I'm sorry Sue although you have my sympathy you don't have the right to control the press and articles or photos or even poor caricutures that they may wish to publish.
If so what would become of the 'Private Eye'.

I thought the photo on this forum was affectionately funny Sue. I haven't seen the article - did it create offence around the picture? I ask because on this forum it was not offensive, and if it was offensive to you, you had an opportunity to raise it at that time. Which suggests to me that it is only the reproduction of it in the local press that has irritated you, and perhaps that is where you need to look. I agree 100%, by the way, with Marek on the political issue - your privacy should be respected but your persona is fair game - politicians need a strong sense of humour and self-deprecation to survive!!

The picture/cartoon is used in todays Dubris column...with a bit of a leg pull attached to it...as you would expect in the Dubris column
I dont think there is anything for you to worry about there Sue. I agree with the posters above though...a cartoon is a legitimate way of poking a bit of fun at politicians. From olden times gone by we had the classics by Hogarth and Rowlandson, and the artform goes on and on all the way through to the modern era with he likes of Gerald Scarfe. Its often just a bit of fun but sometimes a cartoon can make very powerful political points.
This cartoon itself is an affectionate poke at Sue as our eternal great aunt who tells us all off from time to time. Ive been told off by Sue quite a few times myself. But everyone views the cartoon with a pleasant eye and without malice.

Sue is a Dover District Councillor, not a Town Councillor
Head and Parapet are Meat and Drink to politicians, or should be, whether they are Town, Village, Parish, Borough, Corporation or whatever. They court publicity to win votes and to win support for their projects and then decry it if it becomes a little embarassing or uncomfortable. If privacy is protected, a little light fun-poking is surely allowed!! Taking oneself too seriously can be bad for ones health......
Sue didnt seem to see a problem with it when it was on the forum, infact came back with a jokey comment then! If it was such a problem she could have said so then.

I also agree that Sue has nothing to worry about. It was indeed more an affectionate dig and the best approach from Sue would to laugh at it. A lot worse things have been said about many of us in the past.... remember a certain column, some years ago now Sue, that was 'pulled' from a certain local paper after an intervention from the Chief Exec because it went way over the top and too personal.

Thanks..I stand corrected.
I just thought the alliteration of Tory Town Councillor
ran off the tongue a bit better that Tory Dover Councillor..a bit of poetic licence..so to speak.

I actually thought that the picture was quite an affectionate joke. We should always expect these things anyway, one of my highlights was being compared to the Brent Spiner character from 'Independence Day' in the pages of the Dover Express.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Absolutely - the picture was just an affectionate joke, nothing more - and was certainly not designed to cause offence or be a personal attack. All politicians from local to governmental level who work with public money should expect a little light-hearted leg pulling on occasion, it goes with the territory. Poor old Nigel's been the brunt of much silliness recently and, being a good sport, just laughs it off, and sometimes even joins in!
Imagine if Gordon Brown were to demand an apology for every cartoon of him in the nationals!
In other words Sue - take a deep breath, step away, and take it as it was intended: an affectionate joke and in fact a recognition that you are well known enough to merit a caricature at all. You have sadly missed another opportunity to demonstrate your qualities.

Oh, lumme. Spare us all. What ever happened to people's senses of humour? When you enter politics, either the plastic version or the real stuff, do you have to hand in your funnybone to security when you enter its, ahem, hallowed portals?

Paul H not sure what happened there with your blank post but we would certainly be interested in your input...so go for it..youre very welcome.
I think Sue's early reaction may have been just that..an early reaction, to suddenly seeing it all again in the Dubris column. But there is nothing nasty at all in the intention.

quite right, once our suze calms down, she will realise that she is nit picking.
the cartoon clearly had no malice to it.
DITTO Paul harrison. You are quite right that Sue found it funny when it was up on the forum

There was no nastiness in the photo or the words. It was simply a bit of gentle humour, I don't do vindictive 'humour' and thought that Sue would find it amusing.
