The Prince of Wales pier will not be accessible, the harbour board have said that they will allow access on escorted tours at set times etc, but wether or not that will still happen who can tell.
Let's hope that the future development of shops and restaurants on the marina curve and the development of public space in front of CT1 does, it would be compensation for the loss of the pier at least.

Now. Think of an innovative name for a new road at the Western Dock? Anyone?
If one goes along Union Street, over the swing bridge, and instead of turning left along the seafront over the new bascule bridge, carry straight on into the new DWDR approach road.
Here we see the result (so far) of the transport infrastructure with access to the New Cargo Terminal ('banana shed') straight ahead
and, turning left again, the newly named road to the marina curve and berth holders car parks.
Any guesses still for the name of this road?

I think it might be called New Marina Curve Rd or similar.

It won't win any prizes for imagination, but it may help sailors find their way back to their barques when they're three sheets to the wind.

Yeah but no but what is DHB going to do post CoronaVirus?
Freight berths have been a disaster.
Plan for marina housing (to pay for DWDR) on hold.
Cruise ships (floating Petrie dishes) mothballed.
Ferry Companies just hanging on in there .
Not to worry, CEO still on £250,000 +.
Next is that they are 'unfortunately' unable to pay for the Dover Waterfront Redevelopment (Bifrost etc) and DDC will pick up bill!

Actually saw the new bridge to the Wellington Dock open this morning.
Does it open often?

Ouch - the tonic just went up my nose! Mind you, I wondered where Rob Hardy had got to.

If it's any consolation, my apple juice nearly went the same way. Do DHB really need to spaff money on an external consultancy for a decade to understand the short sea market? No wonder Eurotunnel management are so confident about the future. And if the esteemed Mr Hardy endorses something, then anyone's first reaction ought to be one of considerable caution.

The (sheet piling) marina wave wall cometh:

(I'm reminded a bit of those hand-held puzzles where you had to tilt them and try to get the little ball through the maze.)

It was definitely considered sometime between 1987 and the opening of the Channel Fixed Link, but then I thought it all went very quiet. However, see

#376 Shown by DDC Head of Inward Investment or whatever 'in confidence' about 5 years ago. Loads of architects drawings for Low-rise 'quayside living' round Wellington and Marina + high-rise and connections to town.
Why else would anyone in their right mind running a harbour (v expensive to build) actually fill in the harbour? It sure ain't to import bananas!

"Another area, Dover Waterfront, is earmarked for 263 homes.
These 11 hectares are centred on Wellington Dock and include De Bradelei Wharf Shopping Centre.
The site is considered for mixed development also including shops, restaurants, cafés and hotels.
Wellington Dock is part of Dover Western Docks, which itself is subject to continuing redevelopment under the £250 million Dover Western Docks Revival by owners the Port of Dover. This is the port authority's single biggest investment".

And so it begins.
N.B. Dover District births registered 2020 births 1045, deaths 1515 which is a net REDUCTION of 470 people.
I DO wonder who all this housing is for

"I DO wonder who all this housing is for"
People who want a home of their own rather than still living at home, renting, stuck in HMOs or even sofa surfing.
Whether they can afford these proposed new homes is altogether a different story.
