The Dover Society raised this at the Port Community Forum on Tuesday.Dover harbour Board, owners of the pier, responded that such arrangements came under the Dover Sea Angling Association (DSAA) which leased the pier. The club should provide the answer.
A spokesman for DSAA later explained “ It was originally planned that even walkers would have to pay but that idea has been changed so anyone can walk along the pier without payment. But anglers will still pay”

I wonder if the change of plan is due to the number of complaints, about charging the non anglers, I have read on FB.

I was talking to someone in the Yacht Club and they said the new marina gets quite a sizable swell in some conditions. It will be interesting to see how the pontoons cope when they go in.

Rubbish. You sound like one of those ill informed Goodwin Sands scientists.

With work continuing in the new marina and lock cut Baldwins crane was again in use a couple of days ago. This time delivering what appears to be counterbalance weights into the Bascule Bridge arms with the aid of some nifty balancing act from those engineering chaps
At the other end of the DWDR works alongside berth A and the RCT a crane driver's cab is lowered into position on one of the towers. Hope the operator has a head for heights!
On the new pier end the metal framework for the pavillion has started to take shape ( a long shot on a rather murky day)

A stroll along the sea front this afternoon to view progress on the new lock cut and associated works.
The temporary blue work traffic 'Beaver Bridge' is still in position
One of the inner lock gates can be made out on the right chamber wall (centre of picture) with part of the seaward gates further back
Bascule Bridge and planned roadway with traffic lights in place
Putting the new marina pontoons into place
No idea what this structure will turn out to be. The concrete posts all have what appear to be wooden runners to act as a cushion to hold whatever goes in between

Anyone for a lift?
The bascule bridge that will take traffic and pedestrians across the new Lock has been lifted for the first time. Rather imposing n'est-ce pas!
Progress on the Lock and Cut from new marina into Wellington Dock. Seaward Lock gates at far end.
New pavillion at end of marina pier now has a roof

Anyone for a lift!
Today saw the installation of the crane jibs on Berth A beside the Refrigeration Terminal at the Western Docks. Three cranes were in use to lift the jibs and attach them to the two mobile crane towers.

A bright, clear day with a rather chilly easterly wind up on 'the heights' this afternoon afforded the opportunity to catch up on progress at the Western Docks development (DWDR).
Firstly the wide panoramic overview with both of the Cargo Berth's mobile cranes (centre picture) now fully in place on the quayside beside the RCT ('Banana Shed')
The RCT now bears a name "CARGO TERMINAL"
Spot the two workers on the shed (sorry 'Terminal') roof.
Work on surfacing the area around the new lock is in evidence with tarmac now laid on either sides of the bascule bridge as well as the road leading up to the new pier entrance. The bridge has also developed a couple of skyward facing points.
The pier lights were on last night with shimmering reflections in the water below. There is a possibility that the pier will be open in a couple of weeks or so, as well as the road across the lock/bascule bridge. We wait to hear more on this. It will certainly help with access once again restored via Union Street if that turns out to be correct.

All quiet this weekend at the DWDR development but a full moon over the harbour a couple of days ago provided a watery reflection alongside the 'Spirit of Britain'
By contrast, a sunlit beach scene brought out this wonderfully coloured paddle craft at the Sea Sports Centre
. Thought I was seeing things with this pink flamingo that was on the water this morning

A number of suited individuals were seen today (without hard hats) walking along the full length of the new marina pier. Maybe a sign that it is not far from opening to the public.
Hoarding has been placed between the Wellington lock cut and the 'public' area alongside the SeaSports Centre/Hythe Bay in what looks like preparation for a public access route to the pier entrance.
Hoarding has also been installed alongside the road leading to the bascule bridge
At the Union Street entrance the roadway to the new bridge looks almost complete
and the roadway on the Esplanade has been surfaced
At the temporary public walkway across the lock cut the boarding that hid the work area has been mostly removed and replaced with mesh barriers

It was not long before our keen-eyed Dovorians found the new Marina Pier open today. Walkers, Joggers, a dog and a Construction Engineer intent on running up and down before going home.
At a rough guess the pier is about 18 feet wide and straight (not a POW kink in sight). The only seating at present is in the open 'pavilion' at the end of the pier.
Just a few first impressions before the heavens opened this afternoon
new beat?
The road across the lock is now open using the Bascule Bridge to get to Union Street. The lock itself is not yet finished and 'dry'.

Work on the end of the marina curve. Baldwins crane and (nearly) three men in a boat - well, a cage actually, to inspect the work
A bit of light relief (sic). DWDR site floodlights are affixed in position on recently installed lamp posts by hauling them to the top of each by cable or rope (a handy way to change a light bulb!)

For the second time in two weeks I tried today to walk the length of the new pier.On both occasions my success in doing so was thwarted by the threat of a downpour of rain. There are absolutely no shelters to be had on the whole length of the pier let alone no seats. On both of my attempts I observed numbers of others give up their walk hardly had they started out and turn back when they realised there was no cover whatsoever from the elements on what is quite a long exposed pier. Many of these well intentioned folk were accompanied by elderly folk, chlldren in buggies and those in wheelchairs who would be particularly vulnerable if caught out by the weather on their promenade.
This gives the pier a very bleak prospect when it should be an attraction and one can only wonder what was in the minds of the planners/designers/architects of this new feature if not but to deter people from actually going along it.
