Oh yes, I forgot. We need this sand, by whatever means.
To fill in the Historic and enjoyable Granville Docks.
Layering it with a huge concrete sheet, we love those.
For a magnificent lorry park.
Where we will get all the revenue, like we do now.
Oh yes, after our fat massive salaries.
We have to give the rest to the government of the day.
Dover, ofcourse has benefited from this wonderful Harbour.
Look at it's vibrancy and wealth.

I'v watched all this unfold over time, and really I can see people being bought off once against the scheme given jobs and turn.
Now, I don't know if the plans by DHB will benefit Dover and it's residents, im sure it will DHB.

it is when the road to hell gets filled with lorrys that are slow moving or static blocking the town of from the rest of the world.

A very good reason why Brexit must include a solution tailored for Dover - and Calais and Dunkerque for that matter!

Anyone following this development.
May be interested in following, by foot, the walkway across the proposed Wellington Navigational Channel.
It is very interesting. The engineering fascinating.
Also, it gives new vistas on the Wellington Marina views towards the Castle. etc.

I thought Deal was populated by heathens who would stop at nothing to hinder progress in Dover, must be so it was on a big sign.

on the left centre of the above photo can be seen the crane barge working on the start of the piling for the public access pier that will enclose the new marina

The marina will provide access to the Wellington Dock via the new Wellington Dock Navigation Channel and Lock
The Wick Channel (piled off) with access via a new 'hole' cut in the Dunkirk Jetty controlled by traffic lights from Dover Port Control

Getting back to the 600 jobs we are supposed to be getting here I read earlier that in a presentation to Sandwich Town Council from DHB that they would be spread over 40 years!!
At the Town Council meeting two days they admitted that most jobs created would be in the Marine Curve outlets but they had no idea how many would be built.

a lot of supportive councillors voted against them purely because they had no plan B or answers or costs.

Working tugs and crane barges used to hammer piles into the area alongside the Prince of Wales pier and to form the new pier (top right).
A wider view to incorporate the marina curve. The central area will become the new yacht marina (pontoons and berths).

Work progresses on the piling alongside the Prince of Wales pier that has now nearly reached the Wellington Cut coffer dam. Seawater ingress into the Lock Cut continues to be pumped out during the work on the Lock itself.
Meanwhile the clock on the old Lifeboat Station (Clocktower) resolutely and defiantly remains correct twice a day.

DWDR - Boskalis Volker Stevin work progress, viewed from Dover's Western Heights
The recently arrived platform rig situated at the top end of the new pier piling. This platform has the ability to raise or lower itself on its four legs as required. But who knows what is it for?
Meanwhile another pile goes in at the end of the row of piles that form the basis of the new pier.
In the Inner Harbour mv 'LIAMARE' is on one of the regular runs from Boulogne-sur-Mer discharging rocks into barges before they are transported to the western side of the Prince of Wales Pier where grab dredger 'Kreeft' is working on the revetment.
Meanwhile to landward work continues on digging out the Wellington Navigation Channel and Lock Cut that will eventually provide sole access to and from the Wellington Dock for yachts and small craft when the Tidal Marina and Wick Channel are reclaimed to form part of the land based service area supporting the two new cargo berths.
Just by contrast - Tranquility - shafts of early morning sunlight descend through clouds to meet the waters edge beyond the southern breakwater

Boskalis' Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger 'BARENT ZANEN' has recently commenced regular runs to and from the Thames dredging ground to discharge sand into the DWDR reclaim areas. Currently on a 12 hour round trip cycle with discharge taking approx 2 hours.
Sand being pumped into the hoverport infill area from pipeline along the Prince of Wales pier connected to the bow of the dredger
with more recent discharges commenced into the outer harbour reclaim area

The tooth appears to have been washed down the river Dour, or washed up on the beach, or may have been used in construction by earlier inhabitants, or even buried as a sacred relic.
I'm sure the conservation officer could have found some other alternatives, or they could have said, 'we don't know how it got there'.
