Its a great painting and it is getting the name of Dover out in the big world for all to see what is good about our town and telling them it is not all rubbish what they hear

Its not about the artist, its about the bull that surrounds anything by 'banksy'. He's a darling of the media, possibly even talented, I wouldn't like to comment, but he isn't going to be the saviour of Dover town centre.
Admittedly, much better publicity than 'Mayorgate' or 'Britain's fattest man', and I certainly wouldn't lump him in with that Harris person, you are naughty Howard.

He has done more for the town centre in one night then any council has done in 40years.

All gone quiet on the "Banksie" front, only a few weeks ago petitions were flying around, demands that DDC protect it etc etc.
We live in the age of Twitter where 140 characters is considered enough to make a considered point so no wonder people's attention span is now so limited. It was the same with the demolition of our pier, and the Goodwin Sands issue seems to be forgotten by many who were very vocal earlier.

Just because it does not come on the forum does not mean nothing is being none,as for the Goodwin sands the fight is still going on.

I am referring to all the areas of social media that I follow that were excited and now seem to have lost interest as has the local press. Fair point about the Goodwin Sands as the next public consultation is not until the Autumn.

Still comments but mainly about the moron who has since scribbled on the wall and the person who is selling a piece of the painted render (that fell off?) on Ebay.

Just to be absolutely clear.
If the mural is to stay in Dover, that is the decision of the company who own the property.
It should not impede, the progress, next phase of Wellington & Western Docks to Town Hall regeneration project-which includes finding a respectful future for the Crypt site.

Had a look earlier and any graffiti has been removed.
Some interesting "weeds" growing on that bit of scrubland.

The multitudes gathered at the bidding of our local hero Sir Charlie Elphicke as his bid to save the mural starts.
Local celebrities were in attendance.

From my inbox! :-
Charlie finished his usual patronising & disingenuous diatribe at his Mural campaign yesterday and was ready to slope off to the Mash Tun.
However, a few of the handful of supporters (outnumbered by press & photographers) decided to go with him.
No sooner had they got in there when the shout went up it was Charlie's round.
At which point 3 bar stools, 2 elderly people and a child were knocked over by Chris Precious as he rushed to the front of the crowd for his free drink. One of our more predictable councillors.
Medics almost had to be called as Charlie began to have a panic attack, explaining to the scroungers that he only had a pound and didn't carry vulgar things (like money) around with him.
Thankfully Charlie had his carer/PA (ex junior reporter) with him who had to pay.

Charlie is waxing lyrical about the importance of art and culture in relation to the Banksie but forgets that he voted for cuts to arts funding in the Commons.

Social media is a wonderful thing for getting people up in arms over something until they get bored and another issue comes along. Large numbers of people believe the Council should put a CPO on the building in order to keep the artwork. Firstly the building is about to fall down of its own accord, secondly the Godden family would have access to the very best legal advice in order to get the best price. My argument is that if DDC paid over the odds for the building using very expensive legal advice and then spent a small fortune on keeping the building upright taxpayers would be up in arms when they found they were paying extra for Council services to cover it.

Where's there a charity with an objective of promoting enhanced citizenship through urban regeneration when you need one?
