I assume Amberleaf50 does not live in the area or he/she would have known that the Royal Oak is in Lower Road, River fairly near the Co-Op and the delightful Crabble Corn Mill.

Yes, there was. I live right by where it stood, I think they pulled it down in about 2009. New houses there now

The main thing I remember from ages ago about the Whitfield Royal Oak was the fish tank that was set into the wall.

I live in the area where Royal Oak one was closed this is why I asked. Seems I was right to ask going by the two other comments, because I would have gone up the closed 'wittyfield' but wont bother anyway now
. Never knew there was another at river as dont live in that area and did not know you could have two pubs named the same.

I used to rent part of the ground at the rear of Royal Oak Whitfield for storage.Towards its end i think they made more money out of me in rent than they did customers coming into the pub.A shame it shut as it was a good pub in its day but hardly any customers in its last few years.

Maybe everyone should save an old pub like Royal Oak if its still standing bought by Dover people buying shares in it and then drinking at their asset!

That pub has gone and I think it's four large houses built where it once stood

DEAR GOD REALLY! Our lovely town turning into new small tight sardine houses and white huge buildings with parking charges wars going on. If old henry was here now he would send out his army to get those responsible for all this.

The Admiral Harvey has now been boarded up following Pat's passing.
It will be interesting to see what the owners do with it next, though I struggle to see that it will stay as a pub.

Prime position but from what I have heard will need a lot of money spent on it, needs to go up-market to make real money.
