I wonder how the amount of cafes around the market square manage to survive?

Some work appears to be going on in the former Admiral Harvey pub in Bridge Street but no planning application has gone in yet.

I was informed on Tuesday evening that The Prince Albert is being taken over by a different PubCo.
Apparently The Landlady has been asked to stay and they intend to close it for a couple of weeks sometime soon for a refit (and that this is why they have not renewed their Sky & BT contracts).
Hopefully they'll get rid of that awful Burberry looking carpet.

As I have no desire to register and have no intention of opening a Telegraph account maybe you could be less enigmatic Howard and simply tell us. I will guess the White Horse.

Don't know what happened there as it is not a "premium" article and the piece is too long to copy and paste. I would have guessed the "White Horse" too and both of us would be wrong, it is "Lanes" in Worthington Street.
Described thus:-
A friendly micropub near the pedestrian precinct, furnished and carpeted. Lanes serves five real ales, mostly from Kentish microbreweries, and over 10 ciders are served on gravity from the temperature-controlled cellar room.
"Wine, mead and soft drinks are also from Kent producers," CAMRA adds. "Snacks can be bought in from the local deli, and a feasting board is available with 48 hours notice.

I like the "served on gravity" and how do they get the gravity from the cellar, do you need special gloves to handle it?

The Lanes is a great little pub providing an oasis of calm in the town centre, despite our fishy friend's predictions of doom and gloom. It's run by lovely people who welcome everyone but stand for no nonsense. It's a well deserved award in my book.
I'll assuage your natural scepticism, Reg. The beer is kept at street level but on shelves that stand about 5 0r 6 feet proud. Hence when poured it is served on gravity. Not difficult to understand, really.

I think the confusion arises because a cellar is usually described as a room below ground level.

It takes me back to the New Mogul with it's "stillages on wheels" and Nellie with her slippers almost on her feet. Happy days.

Also that well known publican saying of "served on gravity" even CAMRA use the term gravity dispensed!

Was at the Chance last Sunday evening and a diet coke (for the driver) in a glass bottle the same volume as a normal can was £2.35

Not sure where the "Chance" is, anyway V Lounge that started as a vaping unit then changed to a Burger Bar is changing into simply a bar.

It’s one of those real villages outside Dover.
