It could be anywhere - except the people in it are predominantly white 30-somethings, most with kids, well dressed, not overweight, carrying expensive looking shopping bags, so it doesn't look like Dover.

Many people at DDC have been working hard, for many years, to bring investors into Dover.
This is a major success and they all deserve a huge pat on the back and I am sure they will continue to build on this success.
Well done everyone involved.

Never easy to get businesses to invest in a small coastal town, I certainly never expected a multi screen cinema chain to open here or Next for that matter. There was never a chance of pleasing everybody but however the development turns out will be a lot better than what we have now.

What did you expect from a retail park? The Tower Of London?

There was a magnitude of options for DDC to utilise this large area of the town centre. If you think this 'investment' is enriching Dover then I really despair.

It is the old adage of better than nothing, ie; £1000 is great but £5 is better than nothing!
I do wonder how hard people have been working for over 20 yrs to achieve a shopping centre!

Mr Heart sir,how long have you been in Dover,I was born here in 1942 and a part from some years in the army and working overseas I have lived here all my life and Dover over the 40years has gone down and down but now at last we are seeing parts of the town getting a lot better still a long way to go but they have made a very good start ,and we the public of Dover must back them up not keep on running down what they are doing. And Dover should be DOVOR not Dover.

If you really think that £53m investment isn't a good start for redeveloping Dover, then despaired you must remain.

There is no £53m investment. It's not real money - but the profit on parking, rents and land resale will be investment returns for Legal & General shareholders.

Why is it not real money? And why do the returns go to shareholders rather than to the investors and pensioners whose pension pots are managed by L&G?

Peter, it is a derivative acquisition. Investors of the L&G fund hold unit shares - they are shareholders.

You have the advantage there Jack. What type of derivative is it precisely?
