Work continued over this weekend on the Travelodge site.
More concrete pillars go into place despite a covering of snow overnight.

Jan Higgins wrote:OK David we have heard your usual comments about both our local councils before.
Now can we hear what is
your opinion of this particular new purchase of a lovely well kept building rather than a semi derelict or run down one that we all thought was the whole idea of this scheme.
I have no opinion because like everybody else on here I don't know the facts. I know Ian but not well, I'm not sure if he owns the building or leases it, perhaps it is being purchased from someone other than him. Is it well kept? It is of an age when the infrastructure may be failing - who knows? Perhaps when more comes to light one or two might show a little contrition.
This is why I say I'm surprised nobody has been sued, the sheer ignorance astounds me.

I am staggered they have got this far without a professional construction company. I hope it passes building regulation
We should start to see job vacancies for the cinema and restaurant outlets appearing soon for that grand Autumn 2017 opening.

I have heard unconfirmed rumours today that M & S have pulled out, allegedly came from a member of M & S staff! They are said to have had enough messing around with delays and lack of completion date.

I doubt that is true as only this week M & S announced that the town centre shop would only close the day before the new one opens. Should be quite a logistical challenge.

M&S quoted in today's paper that they will not close the town centre shop until the simply food shop opens.

Work ground to a halt this afternoon (27.02.2017). Only a couple or so personnel left on site. All equipment silent. Dumper Trucks left full of soil. Wonder why?

All back at work the next day thank goodness.
Billboards have gone up on the green hoardings at the corner of Townwall Street and Woolcomber Street. Can you spot all of our new prospective businesses?
We're into the "
COMING SOON" phase.
taking this next shot without any vehicles in it is virtually impossible

Is there a 'coming soon' for the M&S Simply Food? I have also heard they have pulled out.

I think I would put more trust in third party rumour than anything in the dover express these days!
It would be no suprise if both next and M&S pulled out these multi's don't like people messing with their growth forecasts and 5 year plans.

The last DDC update on the 'St James Retail and Leisure Development' on their investindover.co.uk website was November 2015 apart from a Press Release from Legal & General of May 2016 in which they commit £53m to the scheme.
The stjamesdover.co.uk website is undated but appears not to have been changed for some time either.
As we heard virtually nothing new at the 'Love Dover' meeting recently, perhaps someone from the Developers and/or DDC could oblige with some meaningful and accurate updated information.

Installation of flint wall at Dover St James
Work is underway to install a new flint "town wall" on the appropriately named Townwall Street in Dover. The wall will eventually screen the service area for the main retail block which will include M&S and Next at the Dover St James development.
Bespoke manufacture
The precast concrete and flint sections have been specially manufactured by Milbank Concrete Products.
It appears we have an answer regarding M & S and Next.
