- 19 May 2017 11:06328634Had a look at ground level in Dolphin Passage earlier, first time in 2 or 3 weeks and it really is taking shape and easy to visualise how the final product will look.

20 May 2017 09:59328706Further consignments of 'Town Wall' sections arrived on Friday. Construction advances on Block A meant that boh the delivery and the 'Bronzeshield' crane used to install them was having to gain access via Townwall Street at the old Russell Street entrance, holding up the traffic for a short while. All professionally done.
Today all quiet on site. Scaffolding now up on back of M&S block. Roof insulation has begun and some facia panels have been installed along the side of the 'NEXT' unit and at the front of a number of further units in Block A. Most of the concrete flooring in the block now seems to have been completed.
howard mcsweeney1 likes this - 20 May 2017 11:23328711We were doing one in Canterbury and we left the steel out so we could put in the concrete flooring,,we had I know it all site boss,he came along "Why have you not put the steel in round the roof,We told him the floor had to go in first."No we will get that in put all your steels in" So have done that which was our last job that day,we went back to the work shop ,but we had a phone call from the site boss,shouting he could not get the floor in."Well we told you that would happen"Well come back and take them out."Not that easy now all building have had the nuts done up.Any way our boss came out and he told the site boss "if we do that you are going to have to pay etc,So that is what happen,we was all on over-time till about 23.00hrs.

14 June 2017 13:32330119Those of us in the Gateway Flats already suffer that problem and are nearer to the Dover Port Convenience Highway, otherwise known as Townwall Street, than those who will frequent the St. James developments.
Nobody seems to have had any concerns in our direction nor the impact you rightly highlight from the anticipated increased traffic flow, with the greater percentage being foreign diesel hgv's.
I have been informed that the A20 "improvements" were carried out at the insistence of DDC - not DHB - who didn't want them. The insistence from DDC was that these A20 "improvements" should be included in the HRO which apparently came to pass.Button and Guest 1266 like this - PatrickS

Cladding work on 'Block A' continues.
Another floor is being added to the Travelodge. Looking at the plan photographs this may be the top level going in.
In the meantime a very busily developed Rent-a-Car site (the old BP garage) is being redesigned with new signage in place.
Beyond, the St James restaurant block, alongside the cinema complex, remains under construction.

Travelodge progress
Didn't take long for Enterprise Cars new location (not part of the development) on the old BP Garage site to get up and running. They worked very hard and all hours to get it ready.
Not shown in the photographs is Block 'C' (west side of Russell Street) that is still at the steelwork stage ( due to be home to 'Costa', 'Card Factory', 'Carphone Warehouse' & 'Greggs' & others, with, I believe, a gym on the First Floor. Travelodge. Window units are being installed along the Woolcomber Street side behind the curtaining (not shown)
The service area for Block 'A' accessed directly off Townwall Street between the flint walling and circular concrete posts (yet to be finished off). There is a second service entrance (not shown) near to the M&S delivery zone. Could be difficult getting in and out onto a busy Townwall Street with fast moving traffic.
As experienced by Enterprise Cars with having to reverse their car transporters out onto the busy road.
