Call me Mr Difficult but I rather like sodding fountains especially those with laser displays.

With regards the St.James site ,Was i lead to believe that local contractors were going to be used along with local labour ? At the moment I have not not seen any ? Could we look at the first contract which stated this quote" we will use local contractors" We have lots of local firms that could supply all that is needed its a shame as there is plenty of enthusiasm to see the area developed.

Legal & General have today announced that Kent-based construction specialist, RG Group will be the main build partner for the St James retail and leisure regeneration development in the town centre.

Nice of Mr Watkins to keep the forum updated that his last statement on DTIZ still being on time was a load of rubbish. Surley the obituary of his reign at DDC will go down as 'The lost decades of Dubris'.

This week has seen L&G announce the appointment (at long last) of main contractor RG Group of West Malling who took possession of the St James site on Monday (3rd April).
Maidstone based Gallagher Group on site since December will continue as sub-contractor.
"Practical completion" of the development is scheduled (apparently) for Q1 2018.

I have followed this thread with some interest and wonder, still, about a couple of things, namely;
a) what if anything has DDC got to do with this development since the land was sold to Bond City?
b) perhaps more pertinently given L&G Investment Managers purchase of this development for a significant sum of money what id anything do Bond City have to do with it now?

Completion date Q1 2018 - so should be finished in under a year.
Let's hope so.
BTW what is planned for the BP garage? Demolition presumably?

Latest photos from the St. James development site.
Panorama of Block A along Townwall Street 13 April 2017
The concrete flooring has gone down in the 'NEXT' store unit as contractors work along the Block towards the M&S unit.
The Travelodge site has been relatively quiet this week since main contractor RG took over the site. Boarding shuttering has been removed from the floor levels but there has been little noticeable activity at the west end of the unit towards St James Street.
Indeed over the whole site there appears to be fewer personnel than previous. Possibly just a blip before the Easter recess.
Ross poses two good questions in his post at #828.
As usual no answers forthcoming on this forum from DDC or Bond City. Pity, since they are pertinient and easily answered questions to which many of us would like to know the answers as DDC have spend taxpayers money on this project, and presumably Bond City are wanting a return on their investment (unless they have already negotiated same with L&G).
I will add another question. Who (singular or plural) will receive the rental income / ground rent from the units once occupied?

Just to give a part answer, my own understanding is that DDC are facilitators pulling the various strands together and overseeing the operation. I have no idea who trousers any income once the units are up and running.
I can confirm that Bond City do not follow this forum and probably have never heard of it.

The project is now owned by Legal & General as previously announced.
DDC are the freeholders & L&G main lease holders with long lease.
Bond City are contracted to complete project with RG as main construction lead.
Hope that helps & I have nothing further to add.
All communications are now through project owner L & G.

This week has seen the arrival and erection of steelwork for the St. James Block C units (back of Dolphin Passage). The likes of Costa, Card Factory, Carphone Warehouse and Greggs are destined to occupy these units with others yet to be taken up.
Elsewhere on site work on the sub-flooring continues in Block A along Townwall Street and today saw the arrival of a Falcon Tower Crane alongside the Travelodge, presumably in preparation for the impeding arrival of some pre-formed units. The concrete floor on the present upper deck has been cleared in preparation.

While we welcome this development, what is being done to save the High Street?
M&S, Greggs and Card Factory will leave yet more holes and we will end up like Margate, or worse.

To be blunt. Dover just isn't big enough to support DTIZ and a high street.
