It is not much further to walk from Pencester to St James than from the Dover bus stop in Canterbury to the M&S food hall there.
Buses from all parts of Dover District stop at Pencester. Provides are not going to replicate that arrangement at St James. M&S must have been aware of that when they chose to move.
M&S are no doubt hoping to sell trolley loads of goods to car driving shoppers as well as baskets full to pedestrians and bus users.

#1,062 it's about 3 x the distance, my mother in law could manage it in Canterbury but would never make it from pencester to the new M&S.
I'm sure M&S would not be worried about losing a handful of customers over gaining potentially hundreds, loyalty only works one way in big business.

The only way I could walk from Pencester to St James is by making several stops on the way to sit down, so I doubt I will visit the new M&S or any other store down there in the foreseeable future.

I get off the bus in Canterbury walk through Fenwicks all under cover then a few minutes to,Marks .Much shorter than Pencester to DTIZ.Plus Canterbury do textiles and homeware .Pencesrter Gardens very drafty.Im sure people will load up their cars but there is a minority who rely on buses.Todays society are not worried about the few.

You can always stop for a rest and a drink in Pencester Gardens. Many do!

There is bus stop H in Market Square, which is served by the 68 from there it is a fairly short walk down Flying Horse Lane to M&S
The 63 stops at The Gateway Flats stop opposite the Leisure Centre & at the Leisure Centre stop (61A also stops here) both are close to St James

The 68 is an hourly service from Maxton and Temple Ewell in the day time Monday to Saturday, the 63 and 61a go nowhere near unless they have a service at sparrows fart for those who work in the docks.
The 15 used to go past the leisure centre hourly, maybe Lew will be more up to date on the situation since the changes?

The 68 is no good for River as our buses donot go via Buckland Bridge. They have insisted we go via St Radigunds.Buckland Bridge was handy for getting buses to Canterbury.Temple Ewell are ok got rid of our 15 b And they have direct service to market square also three buses an hour to,Canterbury.our Councillors are not fighting our corner. It cost me £15 for taxis to Dover last week .
Perhaps I could have a little summer house in Pencester .

You may have made a wasted journey Brian as I was in the Pencester Road outlet earlier and they were stocking up garden stuff and Easter eggs. After making my purchase I enquired as to a shut down date to a staff member who was aghast and insisted that nothing like that had been suggested.

two alteratives sue, time it so you can catch the bus that runs from the market square, or get a taxi, or get children to run you there and back, or ask a kindly nieghbor to you a lift.

As River has a bus to town every 20 minutes, why get a taxi? If you time it right you can change to a 68 at Frith Road to get to the Market Square, and then at Priory Street or any stop to Cherry Tree on the way back.
