How do you do that when the person running it still thinks it is 1970 and won't have anything to do with the authorities??

Correct. This is just part of my personal paperwork on the topic!

I understand that it now covers its running costs from the rental income from the businesses there and has a waiting list of businesses wanting to take space.
Many feel this was a reasonable use of DBL monies especially as it has helped 23 businesses start/develop/grow as well as offer other opportunities including an indoor market.
Like many others in Dover when we heard the Lottery had awarded the town £1m it was an exciting prospect. I have no idea where the money has gone but like Bob, I also went to the opening of Stembrook Lane and the general consensus was 'what a load of crap'.

Co-Innovation/Stembrook Lane
Why does this new venture have two names? Surely when promoting a new venue which seems to be a bit like an indoor market, one name would avoid confusion.
As an aside

. When I first moved into Dover we had a brilliant indoor market roughly where the museum is now, it was a friendly place where one could buy almost anything, it later moved to where Smiths is but was not so good.

I think it has 2 names as the retail tenants wanted to call it Stembrook something or other - the business side is still co-innovation.
DP - I believe that prior years accounts should be freely available at the DBL Hub in the Charlton Centre and ought to be on their web site.
I believe there is roughly half the money still unspent and about 6 years in which to spend it
Did you engage with them to share your ideas on where the money should be spent?

Co-Innovation/Stembrook Lane
When first advertised/ discussed I imagine something like 'The malt house' in Hythe. Lots of individual units selling various oddities and goodies. What I saw when I visited was a fabulous quirky furniture shop and not much else. A sort of bootfair/craft fair in the middle where I could buy cakes that weren't covered and some rather odd nic nacks that I couldn't imagine appealing to many. There is so much potential there but it needs more units and advertising. If the units were filled with stalls similar to the ones at the Christmas market at tbe cruise terminal then it'd be amazing and a real gem. As it stands it doesn't know what it is.

The Malt House that has been open for 45 years compared with something that has barely been open a couple of months ! Give it a chance

Perhaps I need to explain my comment. I thought the whole of the building would be made into units already set up (like the malt house) that people could rent. I only used this as an example as cannot think of anywhere else around here that has small wooden units.
It just seems it's trying to be everything to everyone which in my humble opinion means it has no real identity or target market.

Architecturally you couldn't find two buildings further apart than The Malthouse and Stembrook.

LMAO!
While the tumbleweed continues to blow around St James and the owners try to attract anyone, yes anyone, to take up one of the many empty sheds at heavily reduced rent, Ashford Designer Outfit admits it has a list of 40 restaurants BANNED from their development!

Nor in Bicester Village which I called in to last week on way back from viewing new boat.
Full of Chinese buying designer labels. Actual queues behind barriers outside some shops e.g. Gucci, to restrict numbers inside. Free parking. Lovely coffee.
No Nandos. No BurgerKing.
No riff raff.
Recommended break for anyone heading up Coventry way via M40 rather than up M1.

To be fair I do not think it is right to compare somewhere like Bicester Village or almost anywhere in Oxfordshire, except for social housing areas, to anywhere in this part of Kent, lots of very well off people live in the Cotswolds.

Nothing to do with being in the Cotswolds. It could have been anywhere within striking distance of London. A triumph of understanding retail and marketing and advertising, much of it data driven. Great support throughout by Cherwell Council (Conservative run but even the few Labour and Independents have zero muppets amongst them)

Bicester has a 360 degree affluent catchment area. Most of Dover’s 360 is populated by fish.

My Daughter goes there about an hours drive from her home.It is much sought after. You have to aim high.We seem to get food outlets .Unless you raise your sights nothing will happen.Good class shops more connection with the wonderful history on our door step.Less consultants who talk the talk and Councillors with vision.Never be content with second best.I voted for the factory out let for dover not what we ended up with .
