I wouldn't call Farthingloe an important historic landscape, attractive and green but the development is planned for an old industrial part.
The handful of buildings planned for the Western Heights will not be visible other than to people who stumble upon them by accident. The Drop redoubt will not survive a long wait for funds, volunteers do their utmost but capital input is needed sooner rather than later.

I understand why people living near the Farthingloe site are against the development because it affects them personally. I think it is an ideal site for development and the semi-rural location will be attractive to potential buyers. If the houses are attractive and well designed with decent room sizes they will attract young families into Dover or stop them moving out of the town. For Dover to regenerate we need to attract new people to live in the town and one way to do this is to offer a better variety of housing stock.

Well summed up Judith.
Dover desperately needs its population to grow in order to attract more businesses and better quality shops who in turn will provide more jobs and boost the local economy.

The plans have been passed a long while ago and objections were turned down by Eric Pickles.
What was the point of tonight's meeting?

I agree Jan the town population does need to grow for it to survive and prosper.
Sorry Ray, but as you will know only too well the antis (who usually have a personal interest) in these situations will always make the most noise. It is quite hard to persuade people to campaign for something that doesn't immediately or directly affect them.

There has been a lot of ranting and raving on social media (mostly ill-informed) about the development but no show when given the chance to object.

Common sense does occasionally prevail although CPRE could still appeal.

I don't see what is new about their latest appeal, maybe some slight technicality but nothing earth shaking.
