08:3033799PaulW doesn't need my defence, but as I'm sure everyone could read, he was saying that Westmount is now going through due process; it is not owned by DDC, but a private developer and has the planning permission as Scotchie has posted.
It is not up to DDC anymore more - why do people think it is ?
The Folkestone Road Multi-Agency task force are making progress towards tidying up the front hoardings and area and we should see these improvements, sooner rather than later.
Bern - we're not talking about the Town, the Town's image or it's management, we're talking about a privately owned piece of land - outside of the Town Centre.
I don't like the look of it or the apparant lack of progress and I live on the Folkestone Road and pass this site many times a day.
Sue, on the wet-feet subject, maybe the Highways Agency/Kent Highways should be checking all drain-gulleys on a regular basis. There's also a problem with Southern Water's underground pipes - they all need checking and most, probably need repairing.
The EA seems to be full of warnings (especially in Cumbria), but very little action - like dredging rivers and building-up river banks.

10:1633804Sue I too as you know was at Age Concern yesterday and like you on occassions walked through several inches of water, but they are called puddles not flooding. The river did rise and fall by as much as a foot during the day but at no time presented a problem or was it deemed likely. Oh for the days when I could walk on water.

11:5333861I'm sure that the Citizens Advice Bureau is still using the little office, but I hear on the grapevine that they may be relocating closer to Market Square which would be great news

00:1033907We have a number of eyesores on the Folkestone road, and whether its, DDC owned, privately owned, or whatever, to shrug your shoulders and say, "Wnot my problem guv" is not a reply Ia would exprect from a leader of our council.
Pressure should put from all quarters to improve the Folkestone Road.
It may not as Roger says, be town centre, but with the train station plonked on it, the Folkestone road is the first sightings visitors get of Dover.
I realise Ken that Paulw is your hero you have said as much, but that should not stop people having opinions diffrent to his!!

08:0333911Exactly - whether or not it is privately owned is beside the point. We have had the same discussion here about shop property. Local reps are supposed to improve and promote the town. There are ways to bring pressure to landlords and property owners, incentives to offer, conversations to be had.

10:3433926keith is spot on about first impressions of our town, so many people arrrive by train, thankfully work is being done to improve the surrounds.
does anyone know if that sallubrious "hotel", amsterdam house is actually owned by anyone?
it looks likely to fall down of its own accord at any time.

18:0133938I believe he converted to Islam Howard and yes he was fined a few years ago now (not THAT many though), around £45,000 with (court) costs.
To do with not registering it as an HMO - but don't quote me.
