Does DTIZ go over the river?

No DTIZ finishes other side of Dour. Bench St is a different scheme. It is the key link up to Waterfront scheme delayed by DHB privatisation saga.

What is the scheme for Bench Street? Are there any details?

Connecting Bench St area to DHB area around De Bradelei without using underpass. Re-developing land assets of derelict buildings/property fronting Townwall St. & parts of Bench St.

best that we don't hold our breath, the port situation shows no sign of reaching a conclusion.

Just an idea really, not a plan?
Is it all Godden owned?
Would it be after DTIZ?

#7, Paul I am dead against that bridge. It represents a passive acceptance that the A20 will always cut the town in two. For what it's worth I am also dead against the cable car, just a mechanism for tourist dollars to bypass the town centre.

I agree with Peter the cable car idea is a ridiculous waste of money and counterproductive in the regeneration of Dover town. I can't see any advantage in a bridge compared to the existing underpass. I would love to think otherwise, but I think the A20 will bisect the town for my lifespan and beyond.

It's so sad to see so many empty properties in Dover now, hopefully, newly arrived Europeans will add their mark to the eclectic mix of the run down areas and breathe new life into them.
It just needs optimism for the future which we seem to have lost in the UK and which the majority heading for this Country have plenty of. They are looking for a better future, we tend to dwell too much in the past nowadays waiting for something to happen.

It is indeed sad Bob to see these empty properties. Lack of spending power, mixed with low foot-fall is the main problem, not so much the car-parking charges which (in Dover) are amongst the lowest in Kent. Business rates and rents are also too high.
A strategy needs to be created - by someone who will be taken notice of.

You will find the Ellie on Fleurets website. Asking price £200,000 for the freehold. (+VAT, as it's no longer a going concern). Rateable value £24,000, business rates payable therefore something like £11,250 What would you say if your council tax was 6.5% of the value of your house? That would mean £6,500 a year for a 2-bed terrace in the Clarendons.
Puts in perspective what small business owners have to put up with; no wonder the pub business is disappearing up its own tailpipe.

I should also point out that the Business Rates are just for the actual business side of the building possibly not the whole site any private living area is also liable to Council Tax.
