As I was driving into town earlier I saw that London Rd at the Eagle Pub Junction had been cordoned off by the Police.Apparently a stabbing took place there in the early hours of this morning...my unreliable sources said at about 1am.I hope the victim is OK but it goes to show its not just London that's suffering from this craze of knife carrying.

Due to the sensitive nature of this dreadful incident, I shall not go into graphic detail as the nature of the injuries, but suffice to say (via a source I trust), the stabbings were multiple, extremely severe and all over the body.
I hope the poor chap pulls through. Is there CCTV in the area?

that is sad, i thought that our problems were restricted to anti social behaviour.
mind you, only today, 2 of our residents, were sentenced to life for the sadistic murder of "camp david".
by all accounts, a motiveless crime.

I heard the same from another reliable source with regard to the stabbing incident, it seems that it occured in a local taxi, lets us hope that the young man survives this vicious attack.
It's scary, even in daytime, to walk from the bottom of Tower Hamlets up to Buckland Bridge and the Church Alleys these days. What a dreadful hole that part of the town has become - and every day it's getting worse. 'London Road Village' my a*se. A sad indictment. And dangerous too.
For pity's sake - sort it out.
Regards all,
A disillusioned, embarrassed and depressed Dovorian.
I have to say, I know I am often a bit soft, but I rather like the Tower Hamlets part of town...it reminds me of some places in London I used to live in, and I didn't realise it was a bit dangerous. I know I have seen a few people with extra strength lager clutched lovingly and I have been struck at times by the lack of apparent gallantry in some of the young men, but I still quite like it. Of course, not living there I have that luxury. I know a few people who live around there - not many, but a bit of a representation - and they are all charming...........
Tower Hamlets is not a trouble area.
I have lived in the Hamlets for 7 and a half years, without any major problems.
There are always small things that go on, but it isn't anywhere near as bad as it has been painted to be.
My neighbours are lovely. The kids in the area, are on the whole very approchable.
All areas have their problems, but it's hardly the Bronx.

I know exactly what you mean Bern, being a 'Sarf' Londoner by birth I to grew up and lived in areas which the Tower Hamlets area brings to mind. But, as Howard knows, 'my man' would always transport local vitals from that end of town, such as 'Pepper Pot & the like

I too live in Tower Hamlets, it's no worse than anywhere else in Dover. Infact there is still a sense of community on the whole, which is lacking in more socially mobile areas.

I have to agree with Mandi, yes parts of London Road are in Tower Hamlets, but so is Salisbury Road,Park Avenue and Castle Avenue(Part). To claim the whole of Tower Hamlets is dangerous is rubbish.I walk and Cycle that route from London Road to Buckland Bridge every day,and as in many other areas there are some undesirables that you meet, but the People of Tower Hamlets are diamonds.
This is one of the most depressed areas of Dover with St Rads,Buckland yet there is almost a village atmosphere inside the Ward,Bern is right.
Yet there is no community Centre like Triangles or Buckland Community Centre, the only thing the old part of the Ward(excluding the former Barton area) has is 3 schools 2 churches,2 nurseries, yet apart from Traffic Problems when twice a day it gets cut off,it is a multi-culterural commuinty that in general get on with each other, yes there are always problems with Anti -Social behaviour but that can happen anywhere.
The People of Tower Hamlets live in the Centre of Dover and they are the Heart of this Town, and in general having lived there for over 20 years i wouldn't swop them for any other community in the Town.
It is about time you dooom and gloom lads, ease up and put your enengy in making the Town better, instead of having a go,put your money and your ideas up,stand for Council,if you think you could do better lets see you stand instead of sniping at everyone and everything that is trying to make this Town better.
In just under 3 years you could stand for Council,if you think you could spend the amount of time and effort into putting things right,I look forward to you standing on the door-steps of Tower Hamlets telling them what you have said on here.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Well said JHG, I live in River now and so what, its is just another area. I used to live in Mayfield Avenue & Balfour Road as a lad and my wife comes from St Radigands.
All the areas have their problems from time to time, yes including River with the under age drinking and anti social behaviour on the River Rec.
I go to a pub on Tower Hamlets once a week, never known any problems there, every one is friendly and yes the community spirit is there. I see no reason why Tower Hamlets or London Road is in any way unsafe to walk through at any time.
There is so much slagging off of Dover on here, yes we lack the big shops etc but the town it's self has a lot going for it. I would never want to live any where else.
I had a great time in Wales last week but would not want to live there. Every where we went was lovely except one place. "Carnarvon" we pulled into the car park by Carnarvon Castle and half an hour later we pulled out, the place was a disgrace; rubbish every where and nothing going for the place at all. Yes and I thought at that time some people in Dover complain, they should see this dump with its own castle.
I have lived in Dover since I was five years of age and I am proud to tell anyone, I come from Dover.

What's happened is really awful. However, I agree with JHG. I have lived in Tower Hamlets for nearly 5 years now and haven't experienced any more problems than anywhere else I have lived., affluent or not. All towns have their problems, all areas have occasional nasty things happen. In fact, I have felt more at home here than anywhere else in my 35 years. Also, like you Harry I think Dover has a lot going for it. If we always think the worst it will become a self fulfilling prophecy. Dover's not perfect but the glass is half full.

If Vic can run a campaign on here, well vic seems to run campaigns all the time, but I am going to start one.
LETS TAKE THE BUT OUT OF DOVER.
For those who are intrested from what I have heard the incident did not involve anyone who had lived in Dover for any length of time.
Thanks to everyone who I bumped into today at the Regatta who said that they agreed with my comments, and to those who had not seen it,thanks for your support.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

It seems that most people are a bit indignant about Andrew's comments. I just sighed and thought here we go again. I didn't think that such a global generalisation warranted any reply.
All I will say is this Andrew, you coined the phrase "London Road Village". I had never heard that before. Thanks, I might just use it!

To bring closure to this thread, the assailant of Mike Brankley was yesterday sentenced to an indefinite jail term for attempted murder with a recommendation of at least six and a half years served. Further details:

Horrific injuries.I personally think 6 1/2 years is insufficient but hey 14 years for drugs and the above for attempted murder it just goes to show how little we value a precious human life.
I hope Mr Brankley manages to put his life back together.
Thanks Phil for that posting.

Well done Phil.
You're right about the inconsistencies of sentencing Marek; crimes of violence should be dealt with very harshly; paper crimes - fraud etc. should be dealt with other than prison.
