I am delighted to publish this flyer for the exhibition of the work that the Town Team have commissioned for improvements to the Market Square. This work aims to enhance the connectivity between the established Retail area in Cannon Street and Biggin Street and the DTIZ.
Please do come along and have a look and also have your say.
Thank you.

Not wishing to put the cat amongst the pigeons, for the life of me I can't find any information on 'Love Dover Ltd.'. Could anyone enlighten me please ?

Likewise I have Googled the name, looked on Facebook and checked the Companies House site to no avail.

Also I have searched the Dover Town Team and DTC websites, neither of which came up with anything. Could a member of the Town Team or DTC be kind enough to help us out here ?

LoveDover is a Dover Town Council initiative. As I understand it:
A sum of money has been allocated to an new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (LoveDover)(application to Charity Commission made) which will purchase Freehold commercial property in the Town Centre. It will then separate the often dilapidated or no longer needed for commercial purposes Upper Parts of the building, converting them to residential units which will then be sold off to fund the next project. The Freehold would be retained and the shop renovated and let either fully commercially or for a community project. This way the rateable value would be smaller because the whole building will no longer be in rating for business rates; the street (most likely from Market Square to Biggin Street initially) will begin to look smarter and the shop(s) will become affordable and have the benefit of having a Landlord that is not absent and/or a faceless corporation with constantly changing staff who know nothing and care even less about Dover.
The project will make slow progress to start with I guess (having been involved in the CIO application for the DCA, it is a longwinded process), but is a better idea than anyone else has come up with to TRY and tackle the desperation we see every day in our current "prime shopping area".
As an aside, it also shows that the Town Council is taking very seriously the state of the Town now, during and after DTIZ and is, contrary to the negative spin it always gets on this forum, doing something really positive for the centre of Dover. I expect this will be a difficult task and have its critics, but at least something is being done! Full marks to the Mayor and DTC, something good to get behind.

Dover Town Team was born from the Portas Pilot programme 4 years ago. We didn't win the £1m but the group stayed together and has been working very hard in the background, but runs the Bluebird Market on Tuesdays too.
DTT has had a lot of lineage on the forum, I am surprised you don't know of its existence!
Open meetings are always held, every month on the first Monday at the Marina Hotel, 5.30. All welcome, always have been.

Thanks for that, makes sense now, this was the initiative that Mr. Rix announced a short while back. I was a bit concerned to see that a Limited Company seemed to have appeared from nowhere. Thanks for your quick reply.

Under used units over shops in town centres are a national problem with Dover being no different. I posted on another thread the other day that there are 3 floors above Savers and the former furniture shop that appear to be empty and would make ideal flats.
Good luck to the Mayor and the Town Council in trying to turn things around - incidentally I haven't seen any comments about not knowing of the Town Team.

If this is the best Samuel Taylor Rixey can dream up with it's a shame the 'Man from Porlock' didn't call earlier.

I searched the Town Team website for Love Dover Ltd., and it came up with nothing. I did not search for the Dover Town Team as they are quite clearly shown on the poster or flyer in question, and I have heard of them many times over the past.

I noticed your comments Howard. Those buildings have an absent Landlord and have been approached.

The Town Team project is not connected with LoveDover, nor is it connected with DTZIZ, or the DHB project. It was mentioned, like the others were, that is all.

No surprise about absentee landlords - rather more surprised that they don't want to earn rent rather than leave properties empty.

They still fail abysmally at keeping this town informed of what it is up to.
Personally I think it is a great initiative, just a shame it is still carrying the cocaine snorting mayor's name

#15 The DTC project has been in the papers and is in the public sphere generally.
Personally, I think it is time to get over the Mayor thing. Clearly the authorities have, and I have only heard good things about how he conducts himself as Mayor.

Communication is still a big problem with the Town Council although their website is starting to be more informative. They did have a Facebook page but had to close it down to personal insults hurled at councillors by the usual suspects.

Reg,
Don't forget the 'allegedly'!
Considering who's behind the project perhaps a 'Ghosts of Dover taser style feature' would have been more appropriate?

Why would anyone want to be a Councillor?
Low self esteem? Meglomania? Over compensating for small stature? Getting own back from being bullied at school? Feelings of sexual inadequacy? Social advancement? To supplement pension? Egomania? Arrogance?
as for others you'll just have to ask them.....
