I have just had a conversation with my son-in-law about the last time we went to the Market Square and it is about 3 years ago which shocked both of us, Holland and Barrett is as near as I got.

I have been in Dover boy and man from the year 1942 and in years gone by the market square was the centre .How can we get it back to then well very easy and not a lot of cost.
All that needs to be done is first get rid of the one way road and return it to the way it was ,and bring back the the bus stops for local bus,s make it the start and end of their trips. This way you will see folk that use the bus getting on and off again in the market.Dover needs to turn the clock back 30 years.

Also by making it two way again it would slow down the cars that speed around the one way streets

Been suggested many times. When we get DTIZ we will have to have buses in Market Square again .No buses lots of people will not go down there.

#88. Strange thing about this posting. Here is a newly elected councillor, who complains when anything gets personal. Let slips this into, a thread. which should be a serious debate about the future of a main hub of this Town.
Very Sad. Leopards do not change their spots, Petty and singular.
Anyway, there is a change in the weather. Although, the above photographs show the Town somewhat empty, it is refreshing not to have sad bodies, sitting and staring into Cans.

For me we should encourage any initiative that will make Dover a better place.
But this should not mean that we should not be critical.
I'm willing to accept a number of volunteers that post here, will have in the past, or may still do volunteer in many ways to help things along.
And shouldn't have to justify to anyone.
It will be interesting to see how this project developes and the DITZ

I do wish people wouldn't do that as it renders threads unreadable at times.

So back on the thread, Dover has not had the best of publicity for a number of reasons, not helped often by one of the local papers being seen to be negative.
'
Then the nationals like the mail running out of date stories and pictures,
But theres a need for positive outlooks

I am eager to see councillors leading the way by volunteering to help the homeless, not just talk about it but actually do something that resolves the problem. If that actually happens, many locals would surely follow, but if not, the Cllrs have actually served the community, consisting also of the homeless. Howard rightly reminded us of our position in the world economy. Maybe if a way is shown from the lower levels , our government get shamed into eradicating poverty at the level their policies over the years have created. The devide between the have's and have not becomes ever greater. I am told this town council has a million plus in the bank and lots of empty properties, surely there must be a way forward? Many people on benefits with time on their hands , likely some have useful skills..put it all together, Cllrs leading the way, worth a try.

In fairness to the Town Council Pam Brivio and maybe others have spoken to some rough sleepers in the past to ascertain whether they were genuine or not and then notified Porchlight of the situation.

Fair point Howard. But I dare say it takes more than a chat, admittedly that's how a trusted relationship starts but it needs to be followed up. I was thinking along the lines of volunteers "taking on" 1or 2 homeless persons each to help them further by concentrating on them and their problems. The homeless will soon spread the advice around to others in a like situation. But they are individuals with different backgrounds and who better than those with access to all the information and a foot in the door, like Cllrs? Initially surely public facilities like toilets and showers on a 24 hr basis is a priority. Maybe the toilets on the seafront which are closed for 6 months could be a start? 6 months of making money from the public, then an equal time, giving back to the public.

The issue of the seafront toilets is a difficult one Anna as they are run by a Community Interest Company who would have to employ someone to open up, lock up and keep clean. The annexe to the
churc h in Maison Dieu Rd i believe is now open and provides breakfast, showers and laundry facilities 5 mornings a week.
I am sure these recent posts should be on the "Shop Doorway" thread.

It's hilarious, Sansum comes on here triumphant (quite rightly, the electorate spoke) and states he'll stay unless it gets personal, within no time he is abusing people. All you have to do with this cretin is play the waiting game, it always ends in tears for him, he can't help himself.

Mr Nice never fails to let us down on here, driving people away with his insults against people that have got elected by the people while he has failed miserably despite coming across as touchy feely during the General Election campaign. For the record in all the years I have been posting here nobody has been more personally insulting, unfortunately now anything goes as witnessed on the brexit thread.
