17:4232118With the greatest respect, philosophy and policy didn't stop them nicking our money and squealing like pigs when they were caught. Not a fag-paper between them now, sadly, philosophy, policy, whatever counts for little when they have been exposed as uanble to hold a moral or ethical principle in their hearts.

23:2332135Barry I think you are both right and wrong - the UK overall tends politically towards the centre or ever so fractionally right of centre, however the continuing failure of the major parties to really engage with the voters does mean the fringes who say the sort of things the voters want to hear gain popularity and ultimately that will lead to seats.

Hear hear
An example of this is when you hear people moan about the youth
i used to visit schools/yoof clubs/st corners to engage with youth as was surprized just how much knowledge of politics they ho;ld.
ONce you chat with them they can helped to show how best to use those abilities
In my present role I do a very similar thing, and its all about listening and encouraging.
just 1 aspect of re engaging

08:4932148I agree that the fringe parties (BNP etc.) will get more and more votes while both main parties fail to take on board the concerns of people.
The more the BNP spouts off about immigration and what all these immigrants are receiving and we are not - it doesn't have to be true for them to say it, but it will raise people's anger and the majority of people will vote a certain way if they perceive things are (on benefits say) as they are told they are, by the BNP.
For people to turn to the BNP, their perceptions on any given subject must be so awful; it must be up to the Politicians to tell the truth - is that an oxymoron ? - an honest politician ?? Yes I know, I'm a Councillor, but I like to think (and others do too), that I'm an honest one.

09:0332152And you are a rare and fading breed, Roger. And sadly, the further up the food chain, the less likely one is to tell the truth.
