Very few roads have been gritted. The Whitfield bypass has only had one lane gritted, the other remains under approx 8" of snow and slush. The major trunk roads are fine, but once off them, no roads (including a few bus routes) have been gritted.
I get the impression that KCC is running out of grit fast.
True friends stab you in the front.

11:4840393Yes you are right Andy however KCC knew the weather forcast and should be prepared .We have the situation of cars being left on the roadside therefore blocking the roads .We need a snow plough to get to grips with this .
We live in 2010 .We faired much better in the sixties .Its alright for Nich Chard to keeping telling us they are working flat out but not good enough
I think the refuse cart is not coming down here they have been along Lewisham Road..

14:2540400The trouble is that grit (actually salt) only reduced the freezing temperature of water to stop it from freezing. What we had was dry roads with grit on it, but the snow that came down wasn't wet so grit won't have any affect on it. Unless there is any water in the mix then the process can't start.
Not sure we can blame KCC on the type of weather...
Been nice knowing you :)

16:4640408Great to hear that Paul after the bashing the British Rail guy got some years ago for saying about the wrong type of snow on the rails causing chaos. Seems it`s the same type of snow on the roads? But alas, it doesn`t interest the gutter media if it`s roads.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

20:0240431surely the answer must be for district councils to arrange the gritting not the monolithic county equivalents.
susan was saying earlier on this thread about a street with old people homes being missed out.
a local council would immediately know such a street to be a priority.
incidentally why have the pavements on the folkestone road been missed out totally?
they are a sheet of ice and no snow has fallen for nearly two days.

23:4540459I called Kent Highways to ask them the other day for the road and mistakenly thought they'd do the pavements.
Sadly pavements are very low down in their order of priorities and if they are short of salt, they won't get done.
