21:4614049This is on both forums done by me.
Why?is all the top honours each year mainly go to very well paid footballers or entertainers E.T.C.
When the workers men and women who work all their lifes from about 15years to 65years and like myself even longer never get a honour we pay taxs up to the day we die and some even after that.
I am not saying i should get one, but it would be nice to see a small honour for working all your life.
lets just take me for now
worked from the day I left school just before I was 15years old have always had a job paid my way with taxs E.T.C. even still working on now part-time at 67years old and there are 1000s like that and the working person end up with out no honours nothing, do you think that is fair?
It would be nice just to get aletter of thanks or a very small honour of some kind, but no just bills and more bills is that right?
I would like to know how you feel about that, but please do not think that I am just on about myself because that would not be right, thank you.
I remain yours faithfully Vic Matcham

But I would like to know how you all feel about what i wrote do you think it is fair, for my self i do not think it is. they get well paid for what they do and like what they are doing +get a big honour for doing it, I do not think the same for us, some doing jobs that others would not do.

23:0514060careful susan, no point in making nigel jealous.
you are already a dame though, it is pantomime season.
bern
would you care to expand on your last post??

23:4014063On another thread there is a debate about should a councillor be called councillor or just by their name.
Does it really matter having a title like an OBE ??
When you do something in life you should not do it because you think you should be honoured in someway for doing it, but for the good of others. Why do we need others to say that you are good at what you have done or given, as long as in your heart you gave your best, and for the right reasons.
Quite frankly I do not really care about who gets and who doesn't. Good luck to them if they have been lucky enough to be recognised in some way for their work. I certainly don't feel bad or neglected just because I didn't. there are far bigger things to worry about these days.

23:5914066are you saying that you hate being the centre of attention susan?
looks like i will have to make a call to the palace then, would hate to embarrass you
28 January 2009
07:2314070While I still use the term "christian name", it should be pointed out that it is un-pc and the term "fore-name" should now be used. My Christian name is Bern........
PS - in heavy handed leftie fashion I should point out, just in case the Palace is watching and to reduce the risk of embarrassment, that I would by default turn down any offer of an honour. Even Dame, which would particularly suit me, actually!!!!

07:4714072Perhaps you should raid your piggy bank Vic,you may have a chance of getting one then.

10:0014082Oh well, if we're talking about public honour and recognition, what about all the childcarers?
Generally speaking, I would suggest we're still far more focussed around public occupation ie and eg jobs, in terms of defining both identity and worth of the individual (including financial). But ... if there are any rewards or bonuses going, then, I reckon it should be to those who are dedicated to and successful in bringing up our new citizens as integrated, balanced, and responsible parts of a considerate society.
Now there's a really difficult and at the same time much undervalued job, if ever there was one! Yet, strangely, a little further down the line, it's one that becomes the focus of much public angst and intervention in terms of how we fix the problems "caused" by "bad" parenting.

10:3214088Thank you all for that I still think there is alot more on this to talk about so please let have have what you think, i still think it would be nice to have some small honour or as Maggie put it recogition for a life at work, but the point is should footballers e.t.c. get one when they are well over paid some geting £80,000 per week and then geting a honour for doing that, again I do not think that is right, but would like to know your commits on that. thank you.

11:0914097Does the mayor still have the local honours awards??? Surely as a town if there are those who feel people should be honoured in someway, then perhaps locally would be slighlty better. I don't know if there is anything which governs using letters after your name but I would have thought that perhaps on a local level there could be some sort of honours thing if that is what people want.
I do understand what Vic is saying to a degree (makes a nice change understanding Vic) that footballers who are paid extortionate amounts of money are being recognised, when there are so many unsung heros, such as those we only tend to see on Noels Christmas presents or that new thing he is doing Noels HQ. Seeing what some of these individuals do just because they could, is very humbling indeed.
For me. They are the real hero's of society.

11:2614098Thank you Mandie for that, am I readly that hard to understand
.
anyway you see where i am coming from it is not about me but all of us, Just think it would be nice just to get a small award from the government of the day for what one has done in their life and that could be handed down so after you have gone the family could put up on a wall or something, still more to come on this i feel so lets keep it open to get all the views on it.
Thank you vic MATCHAM

09:2514226Loved Tony Hancock
but back to the subject;
Local mayor; councils do recognise in different ways people who well for the communty
Also every year awards are given out at the winter gardens Margate for localpeople who have done A LOT to get through life who may suffere from serious life threatening disease but still not complaining, or as a carer
many others as well
So it does happen.
On the National awards yes they are a farce(well those that vic mentions) but i have raised this before, on another thread.
If we are hgoing to give out OBE's MBE's etc it should not be because of someone you know!
Iv been in the position where an award(MBE)was given to someone but he knew who to talk to to make it happen
others in the same walk of life who would have been far more justified in getting the award but would just do the voluntary job for love not look for recognition.
Although these people wouldnt complain, it was clear that again it puts the awards in doubt as to how they are achieved.it opened my eyes!!!
