Fun Fact - the GDP per person in the UK is lower than that in Mississippi, America's poorest state.

That is very true sir, MPS must see it, if you keep putting wages up it gets pass on ,back to us so we pay more in the shops, they do it to win the public over but it does not work that way.

The sad thing is that MPs and their advisers do not live in the real world as these very small business owners. MPs are well paid and in a secure job for the next few years, some even know that if they loose their seat moneywise their future will be safe.
The days of cloth cap manual worker politician are long gone, Rachel Reeves and her fellow MPs being a prime example.

The town needs a face lift with better parking ,cannot see that happing in my life time.Alot old buildings to be pulled down to make way for that to happen make the town smaller with modern shops all the road works is not helping it,get the town hall open will be a help with a car park if they want better events ,needs a good town manager the walking areas need to redone so us older one with sticks do not get them caught up, policing is also a must, and the list goes on and on and even if all that was done there can be no guarantees it would work.

I noticed that The Cod Father is now frying again (though your chips will be cold and your batter stuck to the paper by the time you get to the town centre).

In summary, 'Lefties love Deal but despise Dover'.
No surprises.

Or in addition to above, the DFL lot prefer Deal as cheaper than the Dover hotel staging post to visit their preferred European holiday destinations.

If Dover didn't exist, Deal would need to invent it.
Its identity is entirely built on a 'Deal - it's not Dover' model.
That the routine 'celebration' of that small town by hoards of tiresome 'personalities' in puff pieces courtesy of their media outlets should not produce widespread shame in Deal's population is an indicator of its craven cringeworthiness.
I'll say this for it, though: since its 'attractions' are essentially a finance bubble (housing) and service (food outlets), it truly is a very British town.

Having lived in both towns, although Deal had a few good points Dover is a lot more friendly and despite its faults I much prefer it.

Unfortunately nothing will ever change. Although it has been pointed out time and time again that Dover's neighbour has done much better over the last few decades. The response is always, Dover is not that bad, we don't need to change or learn from that little town. Ironically both towns have almost identical population numbers.
