Seems like the Government's "line to take" on this is to try and confuse people between membership of the EU, and membership of the Schengen area.
They were running the line yesterday that nothing has changed, because we'd always had to show our passports, because we had never joined Schengen. Of course, this deliberately overlooks the real issue - which is that having left the EU, we are now crossing the EU's external border, which makes things very different. The French cannot just wave us through now, even if they wanted to.

I suppose the next little hiatus will be when all the holidaymakers seek to leave France to come home.

Not so Button. Unlike here in the UK when all the schools break up over the same week or two and there’s the mad rush, coming back is more spread out over several weeks. They don’t get the same problem that we have!

I wondered the same but suspect our Border Force people will adequately man our controls over in France, maybe the return rush might not be as bad as some will return on different days.

I was thinking that all the Brits would come back together and need their passports exit-stamped by PAF. Mind you, I suppose the PAF processing time experienced by Andypol was pretty damn slick - faster than I've ever had from UKBF and faster than I can scan my own passport!

Of course anti Brexiteers can have a field day with this one .
Boris may well have got us out of the EU as he kept on about .
Trouble is , he didn't then have a plan A, or B

Boris has only ever had one plan - the one that serves HIS best interests. He used the Brexit vote as his key to No. 10 and he doesn’t want to vacate. He’s definitely not a man to admire for his achievements- the vote may be done but Brexit certainly isn’t and someone will have to sort out this mess. It was sold on a control of immigration ticket and improvements to funding of the NHS. I don’t think I need to point out how well those two have gone.

Coming back into the UK, there will be two controls don't forget! PAF and BF! So I imagine PAF will take the same short time as before and BF will take forever.....

Sorted!
'Leaders' from across Kent have written an open letter to the Secretary of State for Transport to explain why Whitehall must step up to the challenge of cross-Channel disruption.

Well Bob they must have been listening as I have sent off letters and emails.Im sure other residents have as well .If they don’t get their act together collectively then the economy of Kent will slide further and further down the scale.Who wants to relocate here if you cannot get out of the county.New shops but you can’t get to them .My family are on the way from Leicestershire having a stop at South Mimms.I suppose Brenley Corner will be another hold up.I did say in my letters re no toilet provisions .

I see no DHB representatives signed that open letter which shows how much they care or worry about the continuing disruptions to the whole area. Maybe they realise nothing will change so why bother.

Having read umpteen press releases and the latest comedic proposals re the railways from the Transport Secretary I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any of his 4 personas to do anything. Frankly I do not trust him to sit the right way on a toilet...

Eurotunnel have asked for similar I believe.
As stated earlier, I believe that their ineptitude adds to the issues. Asking for the dualling of the A20 (though needed for decades) when they clearly skimp on their own infrastructure. They've got a bloody cheek.

Eurotunnel (Getlink) is a signatory to the letter, hence no doubt its plea no.4:
- improve access and capacity for rail freight and high-speed passenger trains.
Fair enough, all very green (if one ignores the UK's somewhat patchy loading gauge provision), but then we have plea no.2:
- develop additional border facilities supported by a network of lorry parks throughout the country.
To which of course (unless you're Natalie) the response is - wrong place commercially and my backyard is sacrosanct anyway.
Naturally plea no.1 is the traditional dual the A2 route (don't mention the Eastcliffe Viaduct), but perhaps the most interesting is plea no.3:
- create “smart” travel corridors and efficient borders through new technology.
Check-in and/or people checks away from the physical border is how I read that and worth mulling over I reckon.

They could create smaller Eurotunnel terminals around the country for HGV’s and load then onto trains similar to Eurotunnel with a small x-Ray scanner then they could use the rail network.. more jobs and ease up the road infrastructure around here.
And open up another port.
