I thought that was just part of Project Fear? Oh? It was true? And correct? And correctly predicted from the obviously glaring facts then?

To be perfectly honest I don't remember increased immigration processing for passengers as part of the so-called Project Fear. Happy to be corrected but I think the spotlight was on border processes for freight and MIB.

I think you're right. It's not something I recall being front and center of the debates. Eventually we'll all come to the realissation that life is not demonstrably better because of Brexit - it can't be. It will turn on how much inconvenience people are prepared to endure for the ideology of it.

The latest great plan to stop lorry horns next to Aycliffe during Dover TAP… between 11.30 am and 7.30 am…so for the other 4 hours ….

Leaving aside the muddling of am and pm, surely there is no legitimate reason for lorry drivers to sound their horns at any time of day while queuing in TAP.

It's to wake up the driver of the vehicle in front, as when traffic moves drivers behind queue jump and if one has not left enough room to swing out and around. You get the picture.
The only solution is to move it which they seem incapable of even comprehending let alone doing!

Been campaigning to have Dover TAP moved back for years since it started but Highway England will not do it.
The last time they tried to enforce the lorry horn issue it failed spectacularly…. No idea how they going to enforce it. It is just a tick in the box exercise by some desk bound pen pusher
Highway Code Rule 112
The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn while stationary on the road when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am except when another road user poses a danger.

Your'e absolutley right Gary. The idea of telling a Romanian or Hungarian truck driver that they must not sound their horns between certain hours of the day is ridiculous! They neither care or understand, same issue with idling engines. I feel for you.

Its ridiculous. How is anyone going to know which truck has blown its hooter when theres a hundred or more in a line.No one will be able to enforce that, what will they do,have a traffic officer for every ten trucks just to make sure? And if one does, will anyone own up to it?

Surely just play Bartok or Enescu through a loudspeaker and when the guy starts dancing you got your man?

"More traffic on the roads invariably means more TAP for the long suffering residents of Aycliffe. People living in Aycliffe struggle to get a good night’s sleep when the TAP is on. Lorries rev their engines and honk their horns, all night long. I have been pressing ministers to take action to scrap the TAP system and move it back to the Courtwood junction. The Port and our local councils have been supportive of my persistent work on this.
"National Highways have this week announced a very small step, namely the trial of a ‘quiet zone’ for the TAP next to Aycliffe. There will be a little sign asking lorry drivers not to honk their horns. It won’t stop them revving their engines – and probably won’t stop them honking their horns either.
"We need to get to a position where we ‘Scrap Tap’ entirely. As everyone knows, the TAP system was introduced as a “temporary” measure back in 2015/16. The quiet zone proposal is not good enough and I will continue to press for TAP to be scrapped by moving it back to Courtwood."
