20:3432348word has reached me that from this saturday in east kent, police will be taking action against any cyclists that contravene the laws.
i.e. riding on the pavements, going through red lights, going the wrong way down one way streets etc.
not before time either.
maybe we should invite mr cameron down for the weekend?

20:5232352Hmmm, Betchya it won't even affect Dover.
IF by chance it does, how long do you think it will last?
Till they get bored or till they tell us they have better things to do.
Wait and see on this one Me thinks.
Who was the SPOKESperson Howard?

it was on the "thisiskent" website.
the rejoinder was "if they are seen by a police officer"!!
they do seem to miss a few things round here, maybe they have been issued with blinkers.?

07:4432361They are all, clearly, cyclepaths.

09:0832369I was advised that it is a "moving vehicle offence" to drive from the Market Square up Cannon Street/Biggin Street to Pencester Road between the hours of 10.00 and 4pm.
It is only the Police who can issue fines for these offences, so if there are no police, then you can take your chance.
I do not promote driving along this piece of road as it is wrong and very dangerous for the pedestrians, but it is done many more times than I care to think and all because no one is caught - no one is prosecuted, because it is very rare that a Police Officer walks the length of the Town, from the Market Square to the Town Hall.
I'd be surprised if there are any prosecutions on this cycling offence; there'll be plenty of offences I'm sure, but very few getting caught.

09:4532372With all due respect to you Sheila and Im sure you are a good driver ,I do marvel at some of the people who have those Scooters for the disabled .Its right that they should be able to move about the town ,however I saw one on Monday driving on the pavement along by the bridge in Pencester Road .That area is always packed with bus passangers ,The scooter was very large and as big as a small car .Surely there must be a limit on the size .When you are standing on the pavement waiting for a bus you dont expect a scooter of this size to approach you .Why the lady did not go acrooss to the otherside of Pencester words fail me .
Surely she was not expecting it to go on a bus .

18:1332396just spotted bern's post no.6.
i wish i had thought of that.
susan makes an interesting point about mobility scooters, do the users have much tuition before they go out on their own?
if someone has not driven a car, they may not be aware of the etiquette of the road.

23:1032571My grandmother went to the shops on hers and popped into a wine tasting, she went round the corner so fast on the way back she fell off!
I have seen some of these mobility scooters cruising down London Road in the road, must be like riding a Sinclair C5.
Cyclists on the pavement are a menace along with the kids who leave their bikes outside shops on their sides for all to fall over Grrrr....
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

These mobility scooters do appear also(well some) to be driven in an unsafe manner.
I understand person's driving these scooters don' need any type of test just the shop selling it to them tell them how it works!!!!
Wouldn't want regulation on these, but is this a safe way to carry on?

10:1532583signs are up in town this morning, the fine will be £.30.
i would assume that trhe miscreant will have to pay costs too, otherwise the case will cost more than the fine meted out.
