A new study hurtling in my direction from the annals of the BBC has suggested that anyone who eats processed meat like sausages are doing themselves harm. This study was actually carried out by none other than Harvard University, a fine body of scholars.
It seems eating such food, and I myself have a liking for the humble Richmond Sausage, increases your risk two fold in comparison to say non processed meats. Which was often considered a risk in itself.
"On average, each 50g serving of processed meat per day - the equivalent of a sausage or a couple of rashers of bacon - was associated with a 42% higher chance of developing coronary heart disease and a 19% higher risk of diabetes."
So, if for example you eat sausages and bacon everyday then you clearly are playing with fire. jeez they take away all the fun. So there goes your burgers too, as you cant get any more processed meat than a burger.
As this type of food is mostly consumed by the poorer members of society, as a rough generalisation, you can see how in some well-to-do well fed areas people live substantially longer than those who dont. So there you are.

It's a known fact, PaulB, as I found it in the Dover Express, that in River the people live seven years longer than in Dover town! You see, there they go to Temple Jewels and to the restaurants, here we walk along Townwall and Snargate Streets, along the motorway. The Britannia has closed down, and, apart from the expensive restaurants, all we have are kebab shops, kebab shops, kebab shops...
And I never go in them!

Ah well, there you are Alexander. Yes glad you reminded me about the River situation with regard to longer life, yes I think I remember you mentioning it before. These differentials are staggering but alas true.

What with Harvard University having to run 13 Undergraduate Dining Halls, a Kosher kitchen, 12 Retail outlets not counting the other catering establishments. Also this beauty, a facility for an 'All American Barbecue' at between $19 and $22 per person plus $175 per chef if you want your barbie outside, like duh?

If you want a Smart Dog instead of the 'run of the mill' hot dog they need a few days notice, of course this is Harvard, I must have a 'Smart Dog'!
They have to come up with more ridiculous ways of raising cash to pay for these campus facilities, just looking at their menu of the day nearly gave me a heart attack, I wonder how much of their own food includes processed meat. Rant over

Hmmm, Brian, not too sure! I think these mkight have been seamen who died young, which might explain why they all had healthy teeth!

Look we are all here for a limited time and in comparison to the life of the planet it's a nano second..so relax enjoy your sausages, your cheese, your favourite tipple your women(or men). It's far more important that your path through life does not effect fellow travellers. As my old Dad used to say "many people will cross your path ..try to help them not hinder them on their journey".So eat the bloody sausages!!!
Marek
I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

I think the average age was 30 with the oldest, being around 40 and youngest 18, most it seems died from disease, not scurvy as the remedy had been found by then. Interesting to note that when the remedy was found the death toll in the Royal Navy went down by 25%

A very informative programme with an estimate of around 8,000 rank and file in the cemetery, officers families could afford to have their loved ones buried in a small family graveyard.

Give me more sausages and black pudding, but no spam fitters, Yeuch!
Paul
I am surprised that a gentleman of your discerning taste eats richmond sausages in lieu of the most excellent rooks sausages. I get ill if I dont have them at least once a week - 4 sausages fill up my arms and legs and give me strength. If its a special day I have 5!!

Harmful sausages, eh? Yet more scaremongering, it's a wonder the Daily Mail didn't print it first. Just ask Russell Howard:

Ah, but Richmond sausages are Oirish bangers

Why don't these Harvard types attack processed meat filled burgers? Probably because McD's and BK sponsor part of the campus.
Love a sausage or two, never done me any harm .

You see, Brian, Barry and I each get to the facts behind the scenes which so many don't realise, the statistical truths, which is why Barry runs a blog with plenty of numbers and figures that make one's hair stand up, and I spend a lot of time trying to brush my hair down again, as it is literally frightening what the statistic truths are in our Treasury!
Alas, in the Royal and merchant Navies, many sailors died very young, and they are the ones who discovered Australia, New Zealand and Canada (and the Falkland Islands) and transported the troops in red jackets there, and the setlers from the British Isles, and the sheep and cattle to graze there.
And often could only dream of a savoury sausage when out at sea for weeks and months! We ought to erect a monument to the British Sailor who did all this for us, to the many hundreds of thousands over the centuries!

Used to love the sausages that Hubbards butchers sold, as well as the faggots that had a layer of fat around them, I would love to eat them again. Fact of life that people in poor areas do not live as long, it may be down to a poor diet or the fact they struggle all their lives to make ends meet without a good quality of life.
