Not a good idea considering how many will vote Labour just because their parents did or they always have done, the same goes for some Tory voters, that is why a good campaign or candidate can swing the few independent thinkers.
Never take things for granted that way you loose.

I wouldn't be as presumptuous as to suggest that this is in any way indicative, but the consensus amongst my Labour pals is that Dorrell is a shouty ex-Tory self publicist who has been parachuted into the constituency to satisfy an edict from on high. I doubt that she has much of a chance of unsettling Charlie, if he is allowed to continue.
That said, by the time of the next general election it looks very like Dover will be in the front line of a post-Brexit logjam of gargantuan proportions. In that sort of environment perhaps anything might happen.

Charlie will be back in the fold I'm sure, and I'm sure the tories on high wouldn't make the mistake of unseating him.
They have treated him really badly.
On the Labour front it looks like the 3 are in the running
but it will be uphill against charlie

Whoever they choose it needs to be done quickly as we all remember the farce the last time when it was into the campaign when the candidate was selected giving her little chance to get known. There must also be a possibility of Charlie resigning and standing as an independent in a by-election in the not too distant future.

I think Charlie will be invited back into the fold with open arms, I'm sure he will have learnt lessons of his own party.
Isn't about time his party goes public on why he's suspended or the Police

Latest from our Independent MP.
We’ve been fighting hard to get more money for our police and local services. Everyone knows that savings have needed to be made in recent years. It was the only way of dealing with the mountain of crippling debt left by Labour. Yet here in Kent the local authorities have done an incredible job. Rather than go on wild borrowing sprees, they’ve worked hard to balance the books. Of course, we need to speak up when we think they’ve got something wrong. That’s why we fought hard against proposals to slash subsidized bus services in Kent. The council did the right thing, listened to public concern and reversed the decision. Yet the money they need to run public services properly must come from somewhere. That’s why I and fellow Kent MPs have been battling more funding for local services and met with Ministers this week. We felt the funding being offered to Kent this financial year wasn’t enough – and demanded it be increased.
So I’m delighted that the Government listened to our case and boosted Kent County Council’s “core spending power” by £26.9 million to £938.1 million for the coming financial year. KCC was also handed an extra £3.9 million for social care spending. Kent Police’s funding was boosted too, from £279.3 million to £288 million. I’ve written to Matthew Scott, Kent’s impressive Police and Crime Commissioner, calling on him to use this opportunity to boost police presence in Dover and Deal. The more bobbies on the beat the better. In Deal in particular, residents tell me they want more opportunities to speak face-to-face with the police – the Deal Police Station front counter is only open two hours a day, Monday to Friday. So I’ve asked the Commissioner to consider doubling the number of hours residents have access to the local force.
We’ve achieved some real victories on local funding. Yet there is still more to do. I also met this week with Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes. The Home Office owes KCC nearly £5 million for caring for unaccompanied asylum seekers this financial year.
I have also written to Home Secretary Amber Rudd on the matter. My letter, signed by nine fellow Kent MPs, calls for KCC to be given additional funding to cover the costs of caring for the refugees.
In recent years Kent has cared for nearly a quarter of all unaccompanied asylum seeking children in the UK – and the council has had to cover the soaring costs. Meanwhile, we have handed over more than £200 million to the French to spend in Calais, where most of these vulnerable people are coming to Britain from. It’s not fair for taxpayers in Kent to shoulder so much of the burden.
We’re making progress but we need to keep the pressure up to ensure the Government invests more in our area – particularly at the Dover frontline.

Charlie on the St James delay.
Today I met with the chief executive of UK Power Networks to ask for the fastest possible connection so we can get this development open.
I was told the delays have been caused by the developers not sorting out legal paperwork for the power cables. So I’m now calling on them to sort the paperwork out immediately, because UKPN tell me they are ready to do the work right away.
Dovorians have waited long enough. The developers need to get on with it and deliver for Dover.

I'm surprised Charlie hasn't donned his hard cap and fixed it himself.

The news about the current delay in the opening of the St James ,s Development makes me feel very sad.For years I have tried to promote this venture only to see the changes as work has progressed. The original idea was to have new retailers into the town .Now further delay as problems with supplying power to the site. What kind of project manager do they have.Buses were originally planned for the site or at the best to Market Square.
On reflection perhaps we should have had all leisure on the site swimming pool and a bowling alley?.More money invested in the existing town centre.
I heard Cllr Collor this morning .Well please get those flooded areas in Biggin Street sorted and replace those awfull seats in Pencester.I cannot use them as one slides off them.Invented by a man no doubt.I sit on the small walls and when it rains get wet.

I see that Charlie was a signatory to the infamous ERG letter from "62 Tory MPs".

Shrewd move as the party is moving to the right so he is looking to the future. So only 61 Tory MPs signed the letter.

I wonder what excuse Charlie will come up with for voting away free school meals for the poorest except those in Northern Ireland. He had a free vote as an Independent.
